Homeplace on Green River is a shared project of Adair, Green and Taylor counties and is located at 5807 New Columbia Road, Campellsville, KY 42718. The farm is being restored by volunteers and is administered by a Board of Directors representing all three counties. Homeplace is dedicated to the
protection and promotion of rural American
culture through the sustainability of agriculture and natur

al resources using education, conservation and the economic opporuntities of agri-tourism. Homeplace showcases the local history of Adair, Green and Taylor counties as well as that of all of Kentucky. Homeplace has a rich history of national, state, and community support. Since receiving its 501 (c)(3) tax free status in 2002, it has been granted over $850,000 in funding from 15 organizations and agencies. In addition to the three county governments, The Nature Conservancy, U.K. Cooperative Extension Service, TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOURSEKY), Tebbs Bend Battlefield Association, Heartland Waterways Tourism Corridor, Kentucky Departments of Agriculture, Fish and Wildlife, and Forestry, USDA Natural Resources and Conservation Services and others are playing an active role in the restoration and operation of the farm. Funding for initial purchase of the property was provided by The Farmland Protection Program. Individuals and families have made $5,000-$10,000 gifts for projects at Homeplace including for the home and reconstruction of an early log to***co barn. The combined 800+ acres and surrounding region add to Homeplace’s strength as a potential major tourist destination. The Homeplace on Green River and adjacent Tebbs Bend/Green River Nature area owned by Taylor County are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Homeplace also borders on the historic Tebbs Bend Civil War Battlefield. Homeplace offers a living-learning-working farm that is being restored while remaining operational and 97% debt-free. Documented volunteer hours speak volumes about the dedication and commitment of its Board of Directors, partners, local colleges and universities, and many other supporters. This post from our friends at Charity Garden is hilarious! 😆
Relatable!

That post-planting feeling. 🌱

When the beds are filled, the seeds are tucked in, the starts are settled, and your body finally says, “Alright… we made it.”

The big push is the gritty part — hauling compost, shaping rows, planting, sweating, second-guessing, and doing “just one more thing” about seventeen times.

But once everything is in the ground, the garden changes pace.

Now comes the sweeter work: watering in the mornings, trellising vines as they climb, checking for new growth, pulling a few weeds, and watching the whole little world wake up.

This is the blissful part.

Roots down, spirits up.

Nothing better than celebrating something new while appreciating the past.

Shoutout to Francisco’s for the beautiful new roof on the historic Tate Farm House! As we admire this latest chapter in the home's story, we're also looking back at when the roof was being redone years ago.

Preserving history takes dedication, craftsmanship, and a respect for what came before us. Thank you, Francisco's, for helping keep this local landmark looking its best for generations to come.

🛠 Old tools, old skills 🛠

Old farm tools may look simple, but they represent generations of skill, patience, and hard work.

Every handle was shaped by the hands working it. Every blade, wheel, chain, and hook had a purpose. These tools remind us that farming is never just a job... It was a way of life.

Do you recognize any of the tools we have hanging in our education building?
