🌱It's busy busy here at the farm!🌱 Yesterday we finally had a calm enough day and enough helping hands to skin the new plastic on one of our high tunnels.

Today we put then final touches on, prepped the ground, and laid plastic mulch and drip irrigation.

Tomorrow we plant tomatoes, hooray!

We can't wait to welcome you all back soon to the farm!

We had a wonderful crew of volunteer pickers come out last weekend to glean some of our fields for Food For Greater Elgin food pantry.

Our ❤️'s were full seeing all these bins full of fresh beets, radishes, kale, scallions, and cabbage going to a great organization and wonderful cause.

Good morning Farm Fam!

With the weather turning chilly, we are so ready to start cooking up some comfort food. Squash is the perfect element to add to our favorite vegetarian chili this fall and winter and we have LOTS to choose from in the farm store right now.

Here’s the simple (and kid-approved) recipe we use in our house:

Half of one large buttercup squash, peeled and diced
One sweet potato, peeled and diced
One cup of frozen Strom Family Farm sweet corn 🌽
One can of black beans
Two cans of kidney beans
One quart of our very own canned tomatoes (you could sub a can or two of diced tomatoes)
A packet of your favorite pre-made chili seasoning (or your own mix)
Some garlic and onion

Cook on high in the crock pot for about 4 hours, then top with your favorite garnish (we like sour cream and cheese). Squash adds a lovely sweet flavor to the chili as well as lots of vitamins and minerals!

What’s your favorite cold weather recipe? Share it below if you’d like!
