For our egg buyers: We know they’ve been out of stock for a while. Our current flock of chickens is aging and we have been seeing less production. They were gifted to us and we didn’t know how old they are. It seems at least some of them are old enough to no longer lay. The solution was to order baby chicks! We have at least 7 hens and maybe 1 Easter Egger rooster.

They will however take another several months before they start laying. It may be a while before we are back at previous production levels. Thank you for your patience!

Any cute names for these gals? 👀

Rear view of our little homestead 💖 🏡

Where have we been? Well, we are getting used to a new work schedule. I was frankly blessed with a fantastic job opportunity that came out of nowhere, which I started almost exactly one month ago! Both of us work full time off the farm.

Our hops are doing great, but the gardens and content are taking a back seat again this year. It wasn’t in our plans, but that’s ok - it’s a good thing! Content here will resume at some point in the future when things settle down.

If you’re hungry for more content from us - check out our website where I’m still releasing a blog post at the beginning of every month. Sign up with your email address!

Hops harvest will be here before we know it - Labor Day! We also applied for a grant for special harvesting equipment that will make things all the more smooth in the future IF we receive it! Keep your fingers crossed!

We’re still here, we’re still farming, and next year we may pivot once again. Stay tuned 🫶🏻

Our hops are HOPPIN’ - they took a while to emerge but this week have exploded after all of the warm weather last week. That means we have been EXTRA BUSY as we put the strings in the ground for our hops to grow on. We will placing more than 900 strings and trimming/training our hops to grow up the strings over the coming weeks.

We have also had a ton of personal things happening behind the scenes, so we may be slow to respond to messages and update our online inventory right now.

Just wanted to post a little update here that the farm is indeed very much alive 🌱 The season is officially upon us! 🍻

Our neighbors just down the street from us and across our area are having some severe flooding problems today. Please be patient and if you can, offer to help! These type of issues can be incredibly costly to small farmers and businesses who have trouble absorbing sudden damages. Farming is tough.

Our farm is ok - our yard flooded last night but has since receded to be just very squishy. Our hops are planted on a slope that drains well so they should be ok (we hope).

Well one unlucky hive. Hopefully they moved above the water line.

Just like that, I blink and it’s been 10 days since our last post! We have been quiet lately as we gear up for this season - we also have some pretty ginormous personal non-farm related goals this year that we are running at full steam ahead! 🚂 No body really openly talks about how difficult it is to maintain a constant social media presence when you have this many plates spinning in the air. 🤔 Fellow small business owners know, though.

It’s not because we don’t love you! Rest assured we are still OPEN FOR BUSINESS! Check out our website if you’re interested in elderberry syrup, jam, stickers, and MORE to help support our farm 🥰

March is the month that officially kicks off our season! We are extremely active from March-September. Stay tuned! 🫶🏻 🌱

So, what even is "homesteading?" Some people say it's the same as farming. But I would define it a little differently. Homesteading is a practice that ANYONE can do! Anyone can be a homesteader. It's accessible to everyone - and that is the point.

Homesteading is using what you have, growing your own, building your own, or otherwise working to create your own. In generations past, homesteading was simply how people lived. We have moved away from those skills because we "don't need" them anymore. We can buy almost anything our heart desires for dirt cheap today.

But should we? That's where homesteading comes in. It is making the choice to create, grow, build, or re-use something with what you already have. It may save you money, but it is not easy - and takes more time almost by definition. So why do it? Why be a homesteader?

Value. Being a homesteader creates value in a way that simply buying something you need does not. Homesteading is a lifestyle teaches us to appreciate what we have. More on this later!
