Yesterday was my 30th birthday and also a day I said goodbye to the first goat kid that came into this world because of me.

Felicity was 14 years old and born the spring I was 15. She was a boss goat and kept that status until she passed. I spent yesterday at the Clackamas County Fair which I took her to when she was a kid all those years ago. It feels like part of my childhood is gone now ❤️ she will be missed.

My first (left) and second attempt at making a soap that looks like an apple 😂 again it was a swing and a miss.

This batter thickens up quickly due to the fragrance accelerating the reaction and I have to be fast to pour the green on top! I will be making more and will try again! Haha. Thankfully it smells dreamy!

Let’s talk ingredients!

Palm oil is a common fat used in soap making and is often labeled as “sustainable palm oil” implying that while some palm oil is bad for the environment that it can be sustainably harvested. I believe that this is misleading and green washing. It’s used to make you feel comfortable in using something that is incredibly bad for the environment. Consumers fall for it, and soap makers fall for it.

I have chosen intentionally to make soap without any palm oil.

This morning I got to unmold my Spiced Apple bar of soap in preparation of fall ❤️ I was shooting for a red apple with green leaves and I’m not sure I nailed the look haha BUT the soap came out beautifully.

Of course I had to immediately make lavender soap yesterday!

This essential oil is a pure strand of lavender called Riverina Allen aka Lavandin and smells very crisp to me as compared to the lavender blend I normally use.

The essential oil used in this soap was made in Oregon only about 40 minutes from my farm by another small farmer. I expect to make many more batches of this soap and to have it in stock for a while.

I chose to use no color for this soap to just leave it raw and beautiful. I feel like using a colorant subtracts from how special and pure the scent is for this soap.

It may not look like much but this is the NICEST present anyone has given me in a long time!

I met this lovely lavender farmer who had retired their farm. We spent a long time discussing running a small business and farm and the ups and downs. Suddenly someone shows up and hands me this huge bottle of pure lavender essential oil 😭 and a huge jug of hydrosol ❤️

A gift this kind from one maker to another, I was / am honestly speechless. I cannot wait to make her some soap and return the kindness.
