Yesterday my sweet boy was attacked by the neighbour's dog. A few small punctures and lots of missing feathers but he's active and doing well. It could have been a much different story.
Keep your dogs contained!
My 6yr old had walked outside to play in the backyard. A few minutes later she walked back in and told me "the dog". See, the neighbors dogs are constantly running the neighborhood and the kids know if they see them then to calmly and quickly come inside and let's us know. I walk outside to Mr. Roo laying on his back, my other room laying on the ground, the dog bouncing and trying to play with Mr. Roo. I starting running and telling the dog to "GET" and scooped up Mr.Roo. That's when I saw the owner standing at the edge of the yard who then had the audacity to ask if they were OK. I yelled at him as I ran to my other roo and starting looking for my hen. By that point the owner had disappeared and we having seen him since. I found my hen completely ok, trying to lay her egg for the day. My husband had come outside by then and asked how he could help. I gave him the young roo while I did a quick check of Mr. Roo. At that point he was still gasping and hadn't made a sound. I found a few puncture wounds, checked his neck, and tried to get him to stand. He was in shock and but would stand, so I took my other to check him over. He was only missing feathers and was trying to get away from me so I deemed him well enough to go in the coop and locked him in with the hen. Mr. Roo was still in shock so I carried him to grab one of our extra cages to quarantine and keep a close eye on him. At that point he realized he was separated and starting to yell and freaked all of us adults out. He calmed as I took him back to the coop so I made the decision to leave him there to not stress him anymore than necessary. Lots of checks and treats along with vetericyn and it looks as though he's lucky.
