I hadn’t found Sugar’s eggs in a couple weeks. I knew she must have a stash somewhere but I had no idea where. I caught her today. She had a great hiding spot in an old firepit stove under the patio. We had some moss in it, which she deemed perfect for her nest. She had 11 eggs stashed in her spot. Ian broke 2 when collecting them, but the girls happily cleaned it up for him.

Our coop is a work in progress. I will have a door soon. It’s approximately 8’x12’ made out of pallets and tin roof from an old carport someone gave my husband. We have enough to build another coop, which I’m planning to do in a few weeks. The inside has 7 roosting bars that are 8’ long. I have 40 hens and 7 roosters sleeping comfortably with room for more. The floor is dirt with composting bedding. When it’s finished, I’m going to paint it barn red with white trim. It’s not pretty, but it works great and my chickies love it.

Sugar is the sweetest hen. She is the only one that comes running when I call her name. She loves me. I know it’s only because she expects treats, but I’m easily amused so let me have this.

We had 2 hens go broody together on the same nest. They had 7 eggs. 2 hatched on their own, but the rest needed some help after they decided they were done sitting. We incubated them and 2 more hatched. This is the last one. So cute!
