Three nest boxes, two wren families, one chickadee family—all in our suburban yard.
Before these babies fledge, the parents will deliver 17,000+ insects and caterpillars. And they’re finding almost all of it within 100 feet of the box.
That’s what 1,200 sq ft of native plants does. The oak alone feeds hundreds of caterpillar species—exactly what’s getting hauled back, trip after trip.
Not acreage. Just a suburban lot, planted on purpose.
Every caterpillar on a native leaf is a future bird.
