Every plant here was chosen on purpose. This is a designed space — placed, layered, and planned — that just happens to feed pollinators, shelter nesting birds, and bloom in waves from spring through fall.
A prairie isn’t wild neglect. It’s a garden with a job to do. And it works as hard as it looks beautiful.
The best part? You don’t need acres. A single corner, a strip along the fence, one bed of keystone natives — that’s where it starts. What could the unused space in your yard become?
🌿 Native by design.

Three nest boxes, two wren families, one chickadee family—all in our suburban yard.
Before these babies fledge, the parents will deliver 17,000+ insects and caterpillars. And they’re finding almost all of it within 100 feet of the box.
That’s what 1,200 sq ft of native plants does. The oak alone feeds hundreds of caterpillar species—exactly what’s getting hauled back, trip after trip.
Not acreage. Just a suburban lot, planted on purpose.
Every caterpillar on a native leaf is a future bird.

Standing over those striped creatures on a plant we had put in the ground for them, we understood, all at once, that a yard could...

Jacob’s ladder is having its moment right now. Such a pretty Michigan native with those soft violet blue blooms and delicate foliage. One of those wildflowers that makes you stop and appreciate spring a little more.

Meet the Grey tree frog, proof that small choices matter.

When we plant native plants, reduce pesticides, and create layered backyard habitat with trees and shrubs, these remarkable little frogs can survive right alongside us. They hide quietly by day, then emerge at night with their beautiful trilling calls.

Every native garden can become part of something bigger.

Plant for beauty, and you may also bring the songs of nature back home.
