Dr. Bill Howard asked that I help spread the word for Sedgewood Plantation ‘s embryo auction TOMORROW!
Below is the information.
“We are having an embryo auction tomorrow (Thursday). Our Powell Farms donors are in the top 1 to 3% for all the important EPDs: $Maternal, $Weaning, $Beef and $Combined. They are bred to GB Fireball and should make some cutting-edge bulls.
Go to http://www.AngusLive.com for the auction & more information.
We flushed our Powell donors on January 8th for IVF embryos to be delivered by courier as fresh Grade 1 embryos from the Vytelle Tennessee lab on January 16 - the day the Polar blizzard hit. The courier could not get here because the roads were iced over and Vytelle froze the Grade 1 embryos.
We had 79 Grade 1 IVF embryos from our flush on January 8th. These are cutting edge Angus genetics that will deliver everything on a good breeder's wish-list: Calving ease, growth, carcass, maternal traits, docility, hair shedding, good eye appeal/phenotype, etc. (see below). These are sexed male embryos that we were going use to increase our number of bulls to sell. I am going to keep about 40 embryos so if we have another blizzard next January, we will have a reserve if our fresh embryos get snow-bound again.
Breeders could use these to raise powerful cutting-edge bulls that would be thick, long, calving ease, docile and excellent maternal bulls as well as being in the Top 1-2% for $Combined EPD, Top 1-3% Marbling EPD, etc..

We have been buying embryos for years working to improve our program.
Frankly, many of the bought embryos were no better than what we were already raising and many were not as good.
The calves out of our Powell donors are the best we have ever had.
Thanks,
Bill Howard”
