We’ve been busy working on our garden, fixing our animal habitats, and enjoying the cooler Spring days. The blazing hot Texas Summer is just around the corner, so we’re soaking up the cooler days.

Today, we had our first crop of a few radishes! Which was so satisfying! 🙌🏼

It may not seem a lot, but we’ve completely started from scratch this year. Since February, we’ve added 23 🐓 and 5 🐇 to our little homestead who all need places to thrive and grow.

The in-ground beds and raised beds were dug, built and sown…and are now producing food.

We have 18 fruit trees, 10 of which have been successfully planted, and 8 more that need to find their way in the ground.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the long list of projects and really sweet to see what’s been accomplished.

What’s a project that’s been most satisfying for your to complete?

I’m saying Rooster and Dallas is now reluctantly agreeing.

Nothing is more frustrating than thinking you have all pullets and finding that some of those pullets are actually roosters!

What has been your experience when getting your chickens from a farm store- have you had some surprise roosters, too? 🫣😂

Meanwhile, Peter—our Flemish Giant—was completely unphased… just sitting there eating his dandelion like nothing was happening 🐰🌼

Definitely one of those “this is part of it” mornings

Now we’re heading out for the day, but I already know I’ll be thinking about everything back home 🐔🌱

Yes, we are probably behind on planting, but our goal is to get stuff officially in the ground this week…and we’re almost there (even if we had to work by a flood light). 🙌🏼

There’s something really satisfying about building this from scratch—even if we don’t get everything right the first time 😅

Hoping this turns into something good over the next few months.
