We will NOT be at farmers market tomorrow. We had something come up in the morning (no, it's not a trip to DC 😅), and my longtime, "helper girl," Kelli has her graduation party in the afternoon. We are going to celebrate her awesome accomplishment of graduating from SD School of Mines!
We will plan to see everyone next Saturday, May 16, from 8-1.

Hauling cows east to grass - we don't have any.
Selling older pairs to pay for the grass we rented.
Been a long spring for ranchers in this area. But, we know it will eventually rain, and the majority of us aren't in it for the short term, or just the good years.
We are in it for the long haul, so we make the best decisions we can to make the cattle dream and business keep going.
Have a good summer, ladies. We will see you in the fall. Thankful we found grass for so many of you!

These are the beef that will fill our retail freezers in the coming months at The Black Hills Farmers Market.
They all spent their first six months on grass with their mamas. They were wintered in a lot at our house, then went back to grass for another six months when they turned one.
Late last fall, they came back to our house and were put on a finishing ration of grains and forages to maximize marbling and flavor. They're just turning two now.
We shoot for a high choice/low prime quality grade, and historically our cattle have always hit that goal. I expect these will, also.
Local, exceptional beef. Direct from our family to yours.

We ran lots of cows through our alley and chute this week giving spring vaccinations. In the midst of that, Charles and a neighbor talked about the paint we use when AIing heifers and cows. As they ride each other, it rubs off, indicating the best time to artificially inseminate.
Charles offered to video how we apply the paint. Because, you know, every cow would be going down the alley getting her spring shots, and it would be easy to take one minute to film applying the paint on one.
We reminded each other several times.
Then, we forgot.
Which lead to baiting our daughter's show heifer with a bucket of grain in order to get the video.
Thankfully, the heifer was thrilled to eat some grain while getting pink highlights.
Also, check out those freeze brands starting to turn white! Girlfriend will soon have permanent ID, just in case anyone forgets who she is and how she rolls.

Siblings!
We are farrowing this week. Thankful for a heated farrowing barn so the sows can farrow without worry while we work cattle outside in the wind and cold.
They're red because of their heat lamp.
