Good Seed Community Garden

Good Seed Community Garden A community organic garden project with more than 85 garden plots available to anyone interested. Plots will be assigned the week of March 25.

The Orchard, located at 110 Snowmass Drive, Carbondale announces its newest project, the expansion of its Good Seed Community Garden plan. The Good Seed Community Garden is located on the north side of The Orchard property and will feature 39 garden plots in 2 size; 4’ by 10’ and 4’ by 20’. The annual cost for a small plot is $25 and $40 for the large plot. Garden plots will be assigned through a

lottery from interested gardeners that have completed an application. The Good Seed Community Garden will be unique in that gardeners will be given the opportunity to contribute 10% of their produce to those in need through either Lift-Up or Feed My Sheep. Debi Boyle, the Carbondale food pantry coordinator from Lift-up said, “This is a great need because the Lift-Up program can’t supply fresh produce for a balanced diet. We would love it!”

The Good Seed Community Garden recently received a generous grant from the Harvey Family Foundation and is also partnering with local businesses to provide discounts for gardeners to purchase items like seed and tools. The garden has already received generous donations of compost, fertilizer, sand and services to ready the land for planting. The garden is looking for donations of materials to build fencing , raised beds as well as pipe for the irrigation system.

Despite the issue with rodents, it’s looking so beautiful in the garden!

Gardeners! We have a bit of a rodent problem.

We’ve been working hard at protecting our gardens, many of which have been eaten to the ground up on the top level and some on the second level, B level.

Right now we need as many volunteers as possible to help keep the live traps set so we can catch the rest of the Wyoming ground squirrels, the gray squirrels, and the new adorable baby chipmunks that just showed up, but will eat through our gardens like crazy.

Although we have already caught 17, today when I came in at 6 PM, I spotted at least eight more running around happily eating our produce.

Right now, I need at least three people to reach out to me to help with this.

Please text me at 970-379-4956 to help keep these hungry runners from decimating our gardens.

Please gardeners, for gosh sakes, read the signs. These containers are for trash only. As you can see they’re overly full and people have been putting compostable materials in them.

We do our best with volunteers to dump this trash once a week. But it makes it much harder when you throw your compost in here.

Right next-door there are two bins that clearly say compost. They are being under-utilized. Please if you have any compostable materials, do not put them in the trashcan, put them in the compost bins.

Help out your Community Garden, and your fellow gardeners! Thank you so much!

Gardeners! Please use the large green compost bins for any compostable debris! There is a list on the top of what you can compost.

We really want to fill these up each week to get the most bang for our buck!

The weeds and grass in the common areas on level A are getting out of control, so why not spend an hour this week cleaning up a space? If you let me know, I can apply it to your required 5 volunteer hours!

¡Jardineros!
