The Spotted Pig Ranch

The Spotted Pig Ranch We are a family run farm offering pasture raised pork, grass fed beef and lamb, as well as seasonal turkey and chicken to our local community.

Pork:

Our pasture raised Large Black pigs spend their days digging for roots, acorns, berries, and fresh grass, as we rotate them between pastures. The rest of their diet consists of fresh milk from our herd of Toggenburg goats as well as our Jersey cow, and a consistent amount of whey from cheese making at our farmhouse. We offer whole, half hogs, as well as pork by the cut. Twice a year we wi

ll have Large Black piglets available for purchase for 4H, your farm or to finish out yourself. The Large Black Hog is not only a description for this pig, but also it's name. Coming originally from Chinese breeds, first to England, then, in the mid-1900's, to the USA. Perhaps the most important thing about Large Blacks is their pedigree. These are “heritage” hogs, which means they retain the traits of their ancestors that lived on the pastures and woods of England in the 16th and 17th centuries. They are hardy animals able to handle the cold and heat and can effectively convert pasture and goodies found in your woods into nutrition. This allows for a truly pasture raised pork. And their pork might be the best available; micro-marbled and deliciously Old World flavor. Poultry:

Our meat birds come from a local hatchery here in Ohio. They arrive on our farm as day old chicks and spend their first weeks in our brooder-warm, safe and clean. After a few weeks they move to our portable chicken tractors, which allow them to access fresh grass, bugs and minerals from the soil. We offer hormone and chemical free, whole and half birds, each generally weighing around 5lbs. Beef:

Our hormone free steers come from a certified organic herd in northern Ohio. They start out life with at their mother's side and transition to our farm between the ages of 1 and 2 weeks old. We bottle feed by had for 8-10 more weeks on milk provided by our Toggenburg does. Once weaned, our steers spend their days grazing on pesticide free pasture, supplemented by local hay during the winter months. Pasture-raised, hormone free beef is available by the whole, half and quarter, as well as specifics cuts (such as liver or tongue)

Toggenburg goats and Toggenburg/Kiko goats:

Early each year we will have both Toggenburg kids and Toggenburg/Kiko kids available for sale. Depending on kidding, we will be offering does, bucks and wethers. The Toggenburg goat is from the dairy line and is medium size, sturdy, vigorous, and alert in appearance. They are noted for their excellent udder development and high milk production, with an average milk fat test of 3.7 percent. The Kiko goat originated out of New Zealand and is a breed that consistently produces a lean, well-muscled goat of large frame and exceptional survivability under natural conditions. In addition to their superior qualities for meat production, they are excellent mothers, hardy and parasite resistant. Livestock Guardians:

Once a year we offer LGD pups from our amazing Pyrenees-Antonia Shepard guard dogs. Our dogs have been protecting our herd of goats from almost our first goat, and are a vital part of our working farm.
