What do you think about AB 1585?

The question on the table in Sacramento right now: should wine labeled "American" be made from American grapes?

Our friends at California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) think the answer is yes — and so do we.

Here's something most wine drinkers don't know: a bottle labeled "American" can legally contain up to 25% foreign wine.

California AB 1585 would change that — requiring the label to mean what it says.

🍇 California farmers are suffering. Grapes are going unharvested, contracts canceled, vineyards removed.

📦 At the same time, foreign bulk wine is entering the U.S. and being labeled "American."

🏷️ AB 1585 closes that gap.

Not everyone in the industry agrees. And that's exactly why growers, vintners, and supporters need to speak up now — before this bill goes to committee.

French wine production is expected to rise 3% from last year's rain-hit season but fall 13% from the five-year average as a heatwave and drought in August and smaller vine area cut output in some key regions, the farm ministry said on Tuesday.
