My nephew wanted turkeys and we just happened to go to TSC when they had them. So we picked out two hoping for a male and female. We finally ran their DNA and we have two sweet little boys, which is better than zero little boys. Because obviously my nephew wanted a turkey because of how the males fan their tails.  pretty much the one and only time that anybody ever hopes for boys. lol

We are up and running for dna testing!

Hey everyone! We have the DNA lab up and running and can test for s*x, blue egg gene, lavender genes and more.

Upcoming hatches (numbers equal to number of eggs in incubators, not guaranteed they will all hatch):

March 13:

Ran some dna s*xing tests today. 8 pullets, 4 cockerels. Much better ratio than I expected.

Lucy is broody for the first time. She is a kikiriki that is around 18 months old I believe. We are going to go ahead and let her sit on those eggs she on. There’s two, I confirmed it earlier. They are even her eggs, they are the d’uccle’s eggs. ゚viralシ

This is Pipsqueak aka Pip. As you can see, he was much smaller than the other chicks that hatched the same day.  people automatically labeled him as failure to thrive (FTT) on day one just because he was small. I felt like that was jumping the gun a little bit. And now here we are 3.5 weeks later at the time the updated photos were taken and he’s doing great. He’s still a little bit smaller than the others, but he holds his own and is absolutely thriving. The frizzle is his sibling and I was trying to get a picture of them next to each other to show a size difference in that he’s still a bit smaller but they didn’t wanna cooperate. And I would have loved for him to have gotten the frizzle gene like his sibling as it would have made him even more interesting looking than he already is.

We only had two quail hatch in this last batch out of 6 eggs. They are fast little suckers too.

Hatch Day 2/25 don’t mind the numbers on the photos. I track individual birds three ways:
1. Band Color - denotes breeding pen
2. Individual bead color - never duplicate colors within same hatch with same band color
3. The photo - taken on hatch day, then updates every few weeks to track color development.
