Saturday was whole lot of fall fun on the farm!

From hayrides and apple peeling contests to c***r pressing, chili dogs, and warm apple c***r donuts, Harvest Fest was full of the simple joys of the season.

There were kids playing, boots dancing, w**e glasses clinking, and plenty of laughter shared throughout the farm.

But the best part? Seeing our community come together to celebrate the harvest, the land, and one another.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year’s Harvest Fest such a special day. These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do.

Our market garden is officially organic!

There’s a lot of joy in these faces, and a lot of work behind this little word.

Organic certification doesn’t change how we farm. It puts an independently verified standard behind choices we’ve been making for the farm since we were founded 10 years ago.

In a world where “natural,” “clean,” and “regenerative” can mean almost anything, organic means something specific — a way to know how your food was grown without knowing your farmer personally.

For us, this isn’t the finish line. It’s the foundation. From here we keep asking: can we build more life in the soil, hold more water, grow more diversity, leave this land better than we found it?

Today, we’re celebrating. Our market garden at The Ground at Tabula Rasa Farms is officially certified organic by CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) and we’re SO proud of the team who got us here!

As summer comes to an end, our water-retention landscape is ready for the return of the fall and winter rains.

While the upper ponds sit nearly empty, the larger lower pond continues to hold water - sustaining wildlife, plants, and the rest of the farm. This isn’t obvious to a first-time observer, but as stewards who watch these ponds daily, we see their fluctuations and understand that they’re also slowly releasing water into the surrounding soil. That, too, is part of their design.

As Zach Weiss says, these ponds are made to leak (slowly). Along with the swales, hügel beds and terraces, they slow the water down, spread it across the land and give it time to sink deeply into the earth, replenishing the water table below.

Some water stays where we can see it. Some continues quietly into the land. Both matter.

For many, Labor Day is a day off. On a farm, it is still another day of feeding, watering, moving animals and tending the land.

But within that daily rhythm, there are moments like this—one of our farmers standing quietly in the field with one of our cows. A small pause between the chores. A reminder that this work is not only labor, but relationship.

For many, Labor Day is a day off. On a farm, it is still another day of feeding, watering, moving animals and tending the land.

Recently, we had the pleasure of a reciprocal farm visit with our friends at Deck Family Farm. First, our team headed to their place to see how they manage their land, livestock and business—and then we welcomed their crew to The Ground at Tabula Rasa Farms,

There’s something especially valuable about spending time with another like-minded farm. Walking the land together, comparing notes, asking questions, sharing what’s working, and what we’re all still figuring out.

When they came our way, we got to share some of our own work, including Shangri-La, our water-retention landscape of ponds and earthworks. It was a hit, and on a hot summer day, more than a few people ended up jumping in to cool off.

And maybe the best part of both visits was ending where so much of this work ultimately leads: the table.

At both farms, we sat down together over lunch made with food raised and grown close to home. Good food, good conversation, and a little more time to trade stories and ideas.

We came away inspired and grateful for farms like Deck Family Farm who are willing to open their gates, share what they know, and keep learning alongside us.

Farm to farm. Field to table. A pretty good way to spend a summer day.

When food makes it from field to table, it’s not an accident. It’s the outcome of hands that seed, tend, and watch closely for what’s ready.

This week, those hands kept working through haze and smoke-filled skies - our team, and farmers across the region, made sure fresh, local food still made it to the table.

It’s a part of the process most people never see. Hands in the dirt, hours before sunrise, long before a bunch of carrots or a crate of tomatoes reaches you.

Let’s give our team, and farmers everywhere, a hand.

There is a real beauty out here that can only be glimpsed by those who take the time to venture into the pastures — to be with the animals, to form a relationship. This photo was taken by someone who lives on this farm. Someone who shows up every day.
