We are blessed with volunteer seedlings, which occur underneath large trees that spread their cones all over the farm. Some of them blow into line with their cousins and we can leave them to grow to maturity. But many are out of place, so each Spring we seek them out, gently uproot and then place them in spots where trees were cut last year and the cycle starts again.

Always a heartbreaker to see one of our trees go before their time, whether a first year sapling, a five year old youth, or a 12-15 year old friend like this one. 15 years from their arrival on the farm to their arrival in your home is a common life-span. And over that decade and a half, we feed, water and protect them from harm when Mother Nature cannot. Ya get a little attached to em.

When Spring FINALLY arrives in northern Minnesota...about another month or so.... we re-plant the areas that were cut in November/December by our customers. There are limbs and stumps to remove and newborns to plant.

In just 12 to 15 years, they'll be ready for adoption. The cycle continues.
