One of our Taekwondo friends asked Jeremy if he would be interested in a new hobby – homebrewing. Jeremy jumped on the internet and started watching videos and purchased the all-in-one homebrewing kit. The first extract kit came with and American Amber and of course since we were going to make our own, he added on a Vienna Lager. The first batch, the Vienna Lager, was better than most beers we eve
r had. It sparked the passion and joy of creation, the transformation of simple ingredients into something delicious. By 2021 and 2022, Jeremy's closet and bathtub with shelving was overflowing with brewing equipment. These sessions were filled with laughter, critiques (both constructive and hilariously blunt), and a growing desire to experiment. Soon, extract kits gave way to all-grain brewing, a deeper dive into the art, fueled by the collective knowledge of his Taekwondo crew. Jeremy, the analytical leader, meticulously researched hop profiles and yeast strains. Their beers evolved – a robust peanut butter porter, inspired by tastings from different breweries and at Amanda’s request, also a citrusy IPA bursting with tropical fruit at Darren’s request. Weekends became dedicated to brewing, either early mornings or after training Taekwondo. His Taekwondo friends became his enthusiastic taste testers. Jeremy, a black belt with a mean hook kick, found a surprising kinship between martial arts and his newfound hobby. Both required focus, precision, and a respect for the process. With each successful batch, Jeremy’s dream grew – opening his own brewery, a place where people could connect over delicious craft beer and maybe even learn a thing or two about self-defense. Local breweries became destinations, not just for pints, but for inspiration. He befriended experienced brewers, picking their brains about equipment, regulations, and the realities of running a brewery. The craft beer community, known for its collaborative spirit. Together, Amanda and I poured our time and effort into a business plan, equipment pricing, meticulously researching the local market, crafting a unique lineup of beers and even sketching designs for a brewery with a taproom. First, since we were still living in Slidell, we thought we should open a brewery there but after 10 years in Slidell we moved to Carriere and fell in love with the town. Living in the area and seeing what was around, we decided Picayune was the place to start our brewery. We looked at a few locations and finally through persistence Mrs. Dixie Dossett helped us find the land on Golf Course and Hwy 11. Having the neighborhoods and the golf course nearby this became our dream spot. The next half year was a whirlwind of planning, banking loans, permitting, and equipment pricing. This next half a year will be finalizing financing, construction, equipment placing and start up. We can’t wait to look around the bustling taproom, the sounds of laughter and clinking glasses. The accidental homebrewer, with the help of his Taekwondo friends and homebrew club, is becoming a full-fledged brewer, and Dangerously Delicious Brewery was a testament to their love for the craft, their passion, and the unexpected friendships forged over shared hobbies of craft beer and Taekwondo. Jeremy’s History
It all started, well… where it didn’t. I was always interested in brewing. I remember walking through the mall in the 90s and 2000s and looking at the do-it-yourself homebrew kits that were stacked in the aisle ways. I didn’t buy one, I just assumed I would mess it up and it wouldn’t be good. I regret not buying one and starting my passion for brewing sooner. I was always into craft beer. Between taking trips and trying everything local on tap. Going to the Red White and Brew in Hammond and joining the challenge for having 100 beers in 100 days and the Drank Everything challenge. My name is still on the plaques there if you ever stop by. We went on a trip to see Amanda’s brother in Maryland and found a Vienna Lager from a local brewery and we instantly fell in love with that style. It is not a common style and therefore hard to find. All trips we take now include the search for “breweries near me”. Amanda's Story
I don’t brew beer, but I have been part of the process. When he first decided to do this we were bottling the batches of beer. This included collecting and then sanitizing bottles, and then capping all 53 bottles, which became a family affair. Later when he got the hang of it and moved away from extract kits to all grain, we had extra work and storage solution to figure out. When I realized where this was all headed, I found Jeremy his first kegerator which was a single tap 15 gallon, which we converted to a 3 tap for his 5 gal homebrew kegs. That was around the same time I reached out to my brother and got him to work on designing Jeremy first sign with our Dangerously Delicious Logo that he made out of metal. What I love to do is work in my garden, renewing furniture, and thinking outside the box to bring my vision to life. It all started when I was pregnant with my second son, I decided instead of spending money on brand new furniture I would just paint what I already had. Then I really took it to another level after we bought our home in Slidell. I found an outlet finding old furniture people were selling and turning it into my own creation. I loved how each piece turned out, and soon realized I had a very eclectic style. My friends even started getting me to look for pieces they wanted and then working with them to refurbish the items. There were times when certain pieces were more than I could handle, and Jeremy would assist me with his carpentry skills to help me change the function of the piece. My boys eventually got into it too and they had me redo their furniture to suit their changing style. Fast forward, we outgrew our Slidell home between Jeremy’s brewing supplies, my painting & crafting supply, and taking on homeschooling our 2 boys. We found our dream home in Carriere, MS, and over the next year we added our personal touches inside and out to make it our oasis. When we get the brewery off the ground, I plan to bring everything I have learned over the years to make it a cool fun place to come and just hang out with your families' friends.
