Let’s talk corn & soy-free eggs 🥚🌿
Lately around our home, we’ve been making a lot of intentional changes. Focusing more on organic foods, simple ingredients, and a whole-food lifestyle. The more research I’ve done on our food system, the more I’ve learned about pesticides, additives, and the chemicals commonly used in conventional agriculture.
That naturally led me to looking deeper into what we feed our chickens too because we eat their eggs, and they deserve a healthy, nourishing diet just as much as we do.
One thing I learned is that corn and soy crops are often heavily treated with pesticides. Because of that, many people choose corn & soy-free eggs as a cleaner alternative. Some also notice less inflammation or sensitivity when eating eggs from hens fed a corn & soy-free diet versus a traditional feed diet.
Hens raised on a corn & soy-free feed also tend to produce eggs with a more balanced omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. Soy also contains phytoestrogens, which some people prefer to avoid due to potential hormone-disrupting effects.
Here at Fox Lake Chickens, y’all already know we made the switch to organic feed but now, beginning June 8th, ALL of our laying hens will officially be on a completely corn & soy-free diet as well for about a week before eggs are sold as such (yes, even our breeding hens). 🤍
Even with this change, we will not be increasing our egg prices again. Our eggs will remain $8 per dozen, which is actually below or right around current market value for organic, farm fresh, corn & soy-free eggs. Many comparable eggs are currently selling anywhere from around $9–$12+ per dozen depending on the area and farm. Hatching eggs & chick prices are also remaining the same.
We truly hope y’all value this change and are as excited about it as we are. We care deeply about producing eggs we feel good feeding our own family and yours too. 😊
