Cow loogies in babies lungs, wHaT🤪

Did you know cattle play a role in helping premature babies breathe? Lungs are the last major organ to finish developing in utero, and most premature babies are born without enough surfactant in their lung tissues. Surfactant works as a lubricant in our lungs, which keeps the tiny alveoli (air sacs) from collapsing. One of the most effective and efficient surfactants out there is Bovine Lipid Extract Surfactant (BLES), a unique substance made up of fats and proteins found in the lungs of cattle. The first infant successfully treated with BLES was born in 1983 and was a huge breakthrough for the medical community. Now that is a cool use for “cow loogies”!
