Hello Facebook Fans! Happy Sunday! Can y’all even believe August is over and we’re rolling into September and it’s still soooo hot out side. Well that’s Texas right! I know we’re all looking forward to those beautiful Fall day in the very near future. I definitely feel like this truly is the last weekend of Summer officially with Labor Day coming this week. So what do we serve for dinner it’s to hot for a Fall menu and it’s to late in the Summer for a real Summertime menu.
What inspired me this week? And then it hit me, I have literally been absolutely obsessed with everything about Dolly Parton. Her passing has hit me so hard in the heart. I loved her so much. Some of my early childhood memories are of Dolly.
I was lucky enough to see her preform one time in Nashville and gosh did she have star power. I think she might have been one of the most if not the most loved people in all the world. Seeing so many tributes, stories and testimonies of how generous,genuine, and gracious she was to everyone that crossed her path Dolly was the real deal. And not only was she an unbelievable Artist, Business Woman, Actress, Philanthropist she was a really good Southern Cook. She never gave up cooking even when she was so famous. She wrote several cookbooks during her life and shared her family favorites. I have them all.
This week is a tribute to Dolly Parton’s favorite Southern Recipes. I have been researching all weekend and making sure every item in this weeks menus was a Dolly Parton Favorite.
Starting with Monday she says a good Pork roast was her absolute favorite Sunday Supper. Smothered in gravy and paired with Blackeyed Peas, Cream Corn and Sweet Cornbread. Dessert had to be her Mama’s Banana Pudding.
Tuesday Dolly loved Thanksgiving and said she always celebrated it with her family. She loved cooking with all her sisters during the holidays. She did say growing up they usually had Chicken because that’s what they raised and couldn’t afford to buy a Turkey. But once she could afford it they always served Turkey. And I bet Dolly would agree with me that Turkey and Dressing should definitely me served more than once a year. And with this we are serving Chocolate Cobbler for dessert. Something I have never made but we’re using a recipe right out of Dolly’s cookbook.
Wednesday we’re making another one of Dolly’s favorite Sunday Suppers. Fried Chicken, this will be served with mashed Potatoes. In interviews I have heard Dolly say Potatoes were her most favorite food. Didn’t matter how they were made she loved them anyway.
Thursday we’re ending the week with another classic Southern Dinner and one of Dolly’s favorite meals. Fried Catfish! We will oven fry ours and served it with Cole Slaw, Green Tomato Relish, and of course Hush Puppies. Dessert another favorite Lemon Ice Box Pie.
It’s going to be a week full of Southern Cooking at its best and I know Dolly would be proud that she inspired all these delicious meals. Thank you Dolly for everything you did in this world. You were the definition of an Amazing Human. I will always Love 💕 you!
