Yesterday we featured one evergreen ginger known as little brown jug. Here is a second one, also with a common name that describes its flower: this is large-flower heartleaf (Hexastylis shuttleworthii). It has a smaller leaf but a much larger flower. The leaves are also rather textured, allowing you to feel the indentations of the silver areas. This one has gotten a bit more attention in terms of propagation, especially the very attractive cultivar Hexastylis shuttleworthii var. harperi 'Callaway'. This photo is not that plant; this is the species Hexastylis shuttleworthii, rescued from a construction site in North Georgia.
