The Blue Java banana, also known as the Ice Cream banana, is a special fruit that tastes creamy and a bit like vanilla. It’s so soft that when you freeze it, it feels like eating ice cream! This banana comes from Southeast Asia and is made from mixing two kinds of bananas. It’s tough enough to grow in cold places, unlike most bananas, and its peel looks silvery-blue when it’s not ripe yet. When it’s ready to eat, the peel turns yellow.

The Blue Java tree is tall—about 15 to 20 feet—and has strong stems and roots, so it doesn’t fall over in the wind. The bananas are 7 to 9 inches long and grow in small groups. It takes over a year for the tree to make flowers, and then a few more months for the bananas to be ready.

At first, the peel is blue because of a waxy layer, but it turns yellow when ripe, and the inside is white and yummy. People like it because it’s sweet and smells like vanilla custard. You can eat it fresh, cook it, or freeze it for a treat. It’s famous in places like Hawaii, where they call it the Ice Cream banana, and some people even grow it because it looks nice in their yards!
