Loudermilk Hobby Farm

Loudermilk Hobby Farm Raw, unfiltered local honey, organically fed pasture raised eggs, fresh baked goods using home ground organic wheat, etc. We are a small "hobby farm" that sells Raw, Local Honey to our community at our local Farmers Market in the summer, several events throughout our community and in a number of local businesses in our town of Cartersville, GA.

We also sell fresh eggs in the summer at the Farmers Market. They are Pasture Raised and our hens are not given any chemical supplements. We feed them an organic diet. We are licensed by the State to sell our eggs. We only average about 30 hens so our egg supply is very limited and our eggs go very quickly at the market. First come first serve.

Announcement:

We just wanted to let our market family know that
we will not be back for these final three Saturdays of the season. We are entering a new phase of life with
our family and feel this is a good time to take a step back from this little business and the market we enjoy so much. We are making the decision based on what is best for our family at this time.

We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from everyone at the @cartersvillefarmersmarket this year and have enjoyed every moment of our time spent serving our community. Our customers have made this market season an amazing experience for us!

There are still three weeks left so please be sure to continue shopping local as we plan to do! The Cartersville Farmers Market is still the best place in town to find quality, local food and products grown and produced by small business owners who are passionate about what they do.

And, of course, if you’re in need of our honey we’ve got your covered! @southern_sown_homestead will continue to carry it through the end of the market season. In addition, you can find a full lineup of our products at @nobleandmain , @cvillewhollygrounds , @cityblendsnutrition, and @unitygrounds with more locations to follow.

Lastly, we want to give a shoutout to our wonderful team who helped us run the show this year. We could NOT have done it
without Emma, Mack, Christiana and Raelin!

Anybody need a baby-sized squash? If so, Cartersville Farmers Market has those too! We were so excited to find Footehills Farmhouse selling these! We had no idea what they were but had to go find out after seeing people walking around with them one Saturday morning. Here’s the cool part, it’s a North Georgia Candy Roaster squash and they are native to this area. They taste like a sweet potato and many people use them as substitutes in their pumpkin pies. #shoplocal #northgacandyroaster #squash #100milediet #nativeplants

Find ya somebody who looks at you like Sarah looks at that crunchy, wood fired pizza and you’ll be doin alright.
We decided to give The Mule House
and Drowned Valley Brewing Company
a try after the market wrapped up today and it did not disappoint! We tried the NY Garlic and The Classic, both were excellent! {side note, this is the face Travis makes when he loses at giant Jenga}

🎶🎅🏽It’s the most wonderful time of the year🎁🎄🎶
We don’t know who started #christmasinjuly or why it’s even a thing, really (probably a ploy from the “it’s always time for Christmas music” crowd 🧐), but we’re celebrating because this peach salsa is an absolute gift 😂 It was also made from our last (mostly empty) box of @gibbsgirlspeaches (sad violin music...adiue until next year) and tomatoes & peppers from @411farms I thought about breaking out the water bath canner but I doubt it will last that long! Any favorite summer recipes from our followers? What does summer “taste like” for your family?

Hands down, our favorite family activity of summer is eating (can we get an #amen 🙌🏼)
We are a family of champion face-stuffers! So far, over the last week, we’ve mowed through three bags of tomatoes, half a box of peaches, a whole buncha seafood, more squash, zucchini and cucumbers than I can count, a bag of bagels, steak and sausage, and a gallon+ of herbal tea. Our week reads like #theveryhungrycaterpillar 🐛 but other than sit in the sprinkler or watch #greatbritishbakingshow it’s too dadgum hot to do anything else! (Incidentally, the girls now play “Mary Berry” & are trying to convince me to call Paul Hollywood to make them a cake, they looked at me a little doubtfully when I explained I didn’t actually have his number 😜)
We end farmers market season a bit fluffier than we started every year, and that’s fine by us 😁😂

We can cross #blueberrypicking off of our summer bucket list! #McKaskeyHillFarm is a lovely spot, we listened to birds and spotted wildlife while we picked (and the kids ate most of what we put in the bucket 😊) You can purchase pints of blueberries at the Cartersville Farmers Market tomorrow if you can’t make it out to the farm. Stop by earlier rather than later, he sells out quickly- no surprise there!

Experiences We Highly Recommend:
•Learning to grill
•Trying out @footehillsfarmhouse Lamb chops for the first time

Experiences We Can’t Recommend at All:
•Catching the grill on fire
•Flaming all your baby hairs into a crumbly oblivion

There are a few takeaways here,
1.) turn the heat down when you’re grilling meat with a high fat content, your family & your eyebrows will thank you.
2.) respect the heat, do yourself a solid and let that flame die down before you slide in to investigate.
3.) Remember that the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is about 2 weeks!
4.) Lamb is a very forgiving meat and still tastes delicious even when charred by a novice grill master

(In all seriousness, nobody got hurt and I didn’t even realize what had happened until I started smelling something rather unpleasant...just thought lamb smelled weird. #whatchagonnado 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Ok, we’re a day early but the #4thofjuly is our favorite holiday and we just couldn’t wait! We also wanted to let you know about our special release this Saturday; Coca-cola Cold Brew Coffee in honor of #America ! We’ve taken our delicious cold brew, added a splash of #cocacola, a drizzle of vanilla syrup, and local blueberries to top. It’s downright tasty and we’re pretty sure if #Patriotism was a flavor it would taste a lot like this🇺🇸

#throwbackthursday to that first glorious time when we had local broccoli from 411 Farms
It’s an understatement to say we’re broccoli fans, we eat broccoli on average about 5 times a week and it was marvelous to have a taste of some grown less than 30 miles from where we live 🙌🏼🥦 #shoplocal #100milediet #smallfarms #thankafarmer #familyfarm #veggies #brocolli

06/29/2020

One of my favorite Sayings from my mom is the adage, “you’re not a knower, you’re a learner” I heard that phrase over and over while growing up, usually after trying and failing spectacularly at something new. The older I get and the more new projects we undertake the more I understand and value that simple reminder. Cue this post and some reality! Remember that beautiful cherry jelly we made in an earlier post? Well it was a first attempt and it turns out the jelly to pectin ratio was off, resulting in cherry syrup instead of jelly. We could
a) do-over the batch, reheating and adding more pectin then seal the jars again, or,
b) use it as the perfect excuse for a pancake dinner.
Can you guess what the general consensus was! Babies are going to bed rather sticky and full of blueberry pancakes and now we know to add more pectin next time. #winwin #jellyfail #blueberrypancakes #diy #diyfail #trysomethingnew #canning #cherries

“Summertime, and the livin’ is easy”...
Summer is for sunshine and sunburns, cousin days, and gathering nature’s bounty. For seizing the day and trying new things. For holding hands and following the dusty path to whatever adventures wait just around the bend. Summer is for everyone, bigs & littles, to slow their roll as the midday sun gives just enough excuse for a rest, and to contemplate the birds and buzz of lazy bees. Summer is for hot nights and cool drinks, and every activity happens against a backdrop of lush green. Summer is for living and loving, and remembering what it was like to be a little person in a grand, old world. #getoutside #childhoodunplugged #littles #letthembelittle #creation #summer #northGA #summerinthesouth

Hi everyone 👋🏼 It’s been a minute since we’ve introduced ourselves and what better time than hitting 700 followers on the ‘gram! So hang tight for introductions below!
We’re Travis and Sarah and we own
Loudermilk Hobby Farm, a small (but growing!) family business that started as a dream to own chickens and provide fresh eggs for our family back in 2014 when we were living in a one-bedroom apartment. Chickens were our first order of business after we purchased our home, and as any #backyardchicken owner will tell you, they are the gateway drug for all things farmy! Babies soon followed the chickens and our amazing #englishshepherd dog, miss Bonnie. Now we’re a family of five living in the beautiful #northGA foothills. When we aren’t out hiking as a family, attempting to grow new things, or cooking up #realfood dishes with amazing local ingredients you can find us selling raw, local honey, organic, pastured eggs, and locally roasted specialty coffee drinks at the @cartersvillefarmersmarket . Owning a #smallbusiness has given us the opportunity to appreciate our beautiful town, develop wonderful friendships, and meet other fantastic small business owners in our community. If you’re ever in the #Cartersville area on a Saturday morning stop by for a coffee or some honey and a chat, we’d love the chance to meet you! #shoplocal #farmersmarket #supportsmallbusiness #rawhoney #coffee #wildflowerhoney #locallyroastedcoffee #pasturedeggs

Our Story

WHO WE ARE: We are a small "hobby farm” which simply means that we are a small-scale farm that focuses on the quality of the products we offer; and we do this not as a full time business but as a way we can share with others the thing we love doing for ourselves. We sell raw, unfiltered local wildflower honey, as well as fresh, organically fed pasture raised eggs, organic whole grain wheat, fresh baked goods using our organic freshly ground wheat, and more.

We are located in Cartersville, Georgia and sell in the North Georgia area. You can find us during the summer months at the local Cartersville Farmers Market and at many local festivals. You can also find our raw honey at several retail locations around the area (see below for locations).

We love what we do and only do it because we believe in the products that we sell and have seen the benefits first hand. We thank you for your support of our small “hobby” venture.

Our Raw Unfiltered Honey can be found in several locations around the Cartersville area including: Noble and Main Coffee Co Swheat Market Deli Wholly Grounds Coffee Co. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been humbled and inspired by the many acts of kindness shown to our hospital staff by several individuals as well as community businesses, churches and organizations. Last week, persons wishing to remain anonymous, provided Chick-fil-A to our entire staff along with inspirational messages by Card My Yard Cartersville, GA placed strategically around the campus. And Century Bank of Georgia and The Church at Liberty Square have been so kind and generous, providing meals for nursing units, especially our ICU staff. Earlier this week, Tabernacle Baptist Church and 7 Hills Transport treated several of our nursing units to lunch. And today, lunch and dinner from various area restaurants was provided to all of our staff by Shaw Industries Group, Inc., followed by a goody bag delivery of 400 goody bags donated by Loudermilk Hobby Farm, Chick-fil-A LakePoint, Congressman Barry Loudermilk, Reflections Skin and Laser Center, Kyle Clay & Family, Donnie Bagwell & Family, Mack & Christiana Parnell, Cartersville Farmers Market, and Bartow County Master Gardeners. We are completely overwhelmed by the generosity of our caring and loving community. Thank you from everyone at Cartersville Medical Center! #COVID19 #CareLikeFamily #HCAHealthcare
