Olde Carthage Farm We are a small family owned and run organic farm currently offering strawberries, blueberries, grapes and flowers. We do things the hard way...the right way.

We are a small family owned and family run organic farm. We currently have strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, Muscadine grapes, tomatoes, and flowers. We use no pesticides, no herbicides and if there's a weed, we have to bend over and pull it by hand. For example:
-We've planted a beneficial pollinator habitat consisting of 12 species of native North Carolina wildflowers surrounding all our crops;
-We depend on beneficial insects to help fight off pests. This summer we released 4200 ladybugs to help fight off spider mites;
-We have provided nesting habitat for brown bats and purple martins, which help control insect populations on our farm;
-Instead of treated posts for our grape vine arbor, we’ve used untreated Black Locust post from Western North Carolina;
-No 10-10-10 or other synthetic fertilizers on our farm. Instead we use OMRI approved natural fertilizers such as fish emulsion;
-In an effort to be a sustainable farm, we are raising Sorgum-Sudan grass to make our own organic compost.

Certified organic muscadine grapes tomorrow at Olde Carthage Farm. Some of you grew up eating muscadine grapes and know exactly what a sweet treat muscadine grapes are. For many of us however, muscadines are a new experience. When you bite into a muscadine if you are expecting something similar to the Thompson Seedless green grape that frequents the shelves of your local grocery store with its thin skin and tame flavor you are in for a surprise. Muscadines are a grape built to handle the heat and humidity of our area. The skins of muscadine grapes are thick but delicious and packed with antioxidants. The meat or pulp of the muscadine is thicker and full of juicy goodness. The seeds of a ripe muscadine are easily separated from the pulp especially with a tongue that has been educated in the art of seed removal. Over the next few days we would like to share a few videos with you that describe the individual varieties of muscadines we have on the farm.
We open tomorrow at 8:30 AM and close around 2:00. See you in the field.

We need to give the grapes a few days to catch up and ripen a bit after Saturday’s and Today’s picking. We are going to close the remainder of this week and reopen next Tuesday morning (8/25) at 8:30 AM. Maybe we can even get a little rain while we wait. I think it might help with the ripening. Thanks for your patience. We’ll see you in the field next week.

Rain kind of ruined our end of season plans with wet weather on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of last week. Don’t get me wrong we were very happy to see the rain but we’ve also had a lot of folks hoping to pick blueberries one last day this season.
In response to customer requests… We will be open tomorrow Monday July 27th from 8:00AM until 2PM. Come pick blueberries 🫐 one last time in 2026. See you in the field.

Officially the last week of the 2026 blueberry season. We will open this week from eight until 2 PM. We hope to make it through Saturday if the berries hang on for us. The weather forecast looks extremely wet and active this week but we will be open as long as it’s not raining. The farm will have pick your own flowers and blueberries. Sorry no pre-picked orders this week.
