Hi

07/25/2022

I’m trying to decide if I want to attempt a summer planting with this persistent drought.

The primary reason I literally ALWAYS have food growing is that I trust our government to screw thjngs up so completely that we will soon be worried about where we will find our next meal. This means I have a surplus of food during the year that I sell as produce baskets.
Here are a few facts you need to know. Even though we use very very little in the way of chemical fertilizers, we still know that it is increasing in price at an alarming rate. The cost of agricultural diesel and road diesel has also more than doubled recently.
Fuel and fertilizers are two huge cost drivers of large farming operations. Fuel affects trucking as well.
We grow enough food here to feed our family and neighbors if the need should arise.
Even if you live in suburbia, you should start thinking about square foot farming. This situation may work itself out. if it does not, what will you do if you can’t find food? Think about the recent shortages we have had.
In the last two years we have had shortages of:
Chicken
Eggs
Beef
Toilet paper
Paper towels
Dog food
Water
Biscuits
Baby formula
Various produce items
Most of these shortages were created by your government.
Get a small backyard flock if you can
Plant a Vegatable garden.
Don’t be a willing victim.

A quick note about our small family farm.
We are not certified organic. There are two reasons for this.
1) It requires inspections from the government and a significant amount of paperwork as well as an added expense to already pretty natural farming methods that we employ.
2) I don’t like the idea of the government coming around at anytime. I’m sure not going to allow them permission and unlimited access for spot checks.
Anyone who knows me, knows that I believe in a small government that stays out of the way. I’m not inviting them to come here and start meddling around. I’ve never known of the government making anything better—at all.

To be clear on our methods.
We don’t use ANY pesticides or herbicides at any stage of growth. We also use natural fertilizers unless a deficiency requires something we can’t readily supply naturally.
