The cattle market continues to face pressure from several outside factors.

Jackie Moore with Joplin Regional Stockyards says slaughter cow prices have fallen sharply in recent weeks, reducing the value of some cows by as much as $1,000 compared to where they were just two months ago.

On the positive side, he says lower corn prices are helping ease feed costs and provide support for feeder cattle markets.

Despite the headwinds, Moore says cattle prices have remained surprisingly strong given everything happening in the marketplace.
