We are very sad to share that our market for today, Saturday May 21st will be cancelled.

Due to the continued rain, high winds and lightening during our early morning setup, it is with sadness that we must cancel our first market ever. The safety of our farmers and shoppers is extremely important to us. This is our first market closing in 13 years and it was a difficult decision to make.

Please share this information so we can spread the word within our community that our market will be closed for today.

This is why we do what we do. The first picture is our small batch chickens out on pasture and the second picture is what you get from the store.

I’ve put my eyes on every one of these birds. I recognize the little spike of hair on the back of the neck of one of them (I call him Spike). I’ve held every single one in my hand. I enjoy their sounds of contentment and know when they are excited. I’ve covered them in tarps in the middle of torrential rains and uncovered them to feel the warmth of the sun. We do this because we care about the quality of life of our animals.

Know your farmer, know your food because your farmer loves your food.

We will be at Neosho Farmers Market next Saturday with fresh chicken breasts, legs, thighs, drumsticks, and even livers and gizzards.

We move our chickens three times a day and feed them twice a day to make sure they always have access to fresh ground and get plenty to eat. We limit our birds to no more than 30 per chicken tractor to keep them from overcrowding.

Sometimes our chicks get curled toes. This condition is usually caused by a vitamin deficiency. In the case of this little one, when the temps got really cold last week she had a hard time staying warm. She spent a full 1 1/2 days under the heater and apparently did not eat.

To fix the curly toes we create a boot for the chicks to wear using sticky gauze pads. The boot makes the toes straighten allowing her to put full weight on her feet. As you can see she is not happy about wearing boots.
