Next weekend we will be in Canton at our first event of the year!

Ok, big news in the giant pumpkin patch! Pumpkin one was not pollinated successfully because she opened the day we had temps in the 100’s and that was too hot. The plant abondoned pumpkin one at day 10. However, plan B is taking off at just 10 days old. So we cut off all the remaining backup plans and we are officially committed!

We inspected some of our late spring honey bee splits today and were pleasantly surprised by this one! All of the tan cells, capped brood, are new bees that will soon emerge. A good laying queen will (generally) start laying in the center of the frame and “spiral” outward filling most of the cells. This frame is a good indicator of a strong queen.

The beauty with the blue dot is the royal lady for this colony.
