Nithin's Organics aims to grow vegetables organically and supply the local community so they too can benefit from healthy, locally-grown food. We believe strongly in organic agricultural practices that help to enhance soil & water quality, reduce pollution, and promote a self-sustaining recycling of resources on the farm. We will get a chance to explore more and lay a way for the younger generatio

n to learn and appreciate nature. We sell our produce weekly twice (from April to October) at Good Hope Farm. Local residents interested may reach us at [email protected] or 248-464-0492.

🌱 A Little Behind the Scenes at Nithin's Farm β€” Okra!

Did you know that during peak season, okra needs to be picked almost every day? 🌱

We walk through the rows regularly and pick the tender pods while they're still young and at their best. If we wait too long, they can quickly become large, fibrous, and tough.

β˜€οΈπŸŒ§οΈ Weather makes a big difference too!

The recent good rain has been a huge help to our plants after the dry weather. The moisture has given the okra a nice boost and helps keep the plants growing and producing.

But picking in this hot and humid weather isn't always easy! πŸ₯΅πŸ¦Ÿ The heat, humidity, and mosquitoes definitely make those daily trips through the okra field a little more challenging.

Still, we keep going β€” because fresh, tender okra takes daily attention and care. 🌱❀️

πŸ… Not giving up on our tomatoes... hoping for a second harvest! 🌱

This season has been one of the toughest we've experienced.

After weeks of extreme heat, we finally received much-needed rainβ€”but unfortunately, nearly 90% of our tomato crop was lost to the combination of heat stress and disease.

Instead of pulling everything out, we're trying one last experiment.

βœ… Pruned all the dead and diseased foliage.
βœ… Cleaned up around the plants to improve airflow.
βœ… Keeping only the healthy green stems and new shoots.
⏳ Waiting a few days for the soil to dry before giving them a light feeding with fish fertilizer.

Some plants are already showing tiny new shoots, so we're hoping they can recover enough for a small second harvest.

Will it work? We don't knowβ€”but farming is all about learning, adapting, and never giving up.

I'll post an update in a couple of weeks to let everyone know whether these plants bounced back or if it's time to make room for fall crops.

Has anyone else had success getting a second flush of tomatoes after severe heat and heavy rains? We'd love to hear your experience!

Gardening update from Nithin's Farm! 🌱

Even with the tough drought conditions this year, we went ahead and started the season strong. Planted a mix of Eggplants, Chilies, Bell Peppers, Okras, Tomatoes, Gongura, and Indian spinach varieties.

Trying to stay ahead of the heat wave this weekβ€”added mulch to the red onion beds to lock in moisture and protect the soil after removing the weeds. Watering deep early mornings and keeping a close eye on the more sensitive plants.

Hoping the heat eases up a bit, but staying optimistic 🀞

Spring prep is in full swing here 🌱

Spent time spreading compost, tilling the beds, and getting everything ready for the upcoming planting season. It’s a lot of work, but nothing beats seeing the soil come back to life.

Huge thanks to our friends who volunteered their time and energy to help spread compostβ€”it made a big difference and is truly appreciated!

Planted onions last week, and the garlic is looking fantastic after adding compost and mulch. Cleared out the weeds too, so everything has a good head start.

Slowly but surely, the garden is coming together. Looking forward to the weeks ahead!

Garlic work progress update πŸ§„πŸŒ±

Spent time clearing thick weeds from the garlic beds last week, followed by mulching too. It was quite a bit of physical work, but honestly enjoyed every minute of it. There’s something peaceful about working with the soil and seeing the difference after consistent effort.

Farming keeps reminding me β€” when we put in the right effort at the right time, nature takes care of the rest. Small daily progress adds up to something beautiful over time.
