Our beef is grass fed and grass finished like nature intended. We are a small organic family farm located outside of Cashton, Wisconsin. We began raising beef to sell among family after we learned about the scary things that are given to conventional beef, how most beef animals are raised in dirty, crowded conditions, and how these things translate to the health of the meat that we eat. So we fenc
ed in some pastures and purchased our first cows in 2015. The land on which they graze is Certified Organic, and the animals are raised using organic methods. Their pasture is not treated with chemical pesticides or herbicides, they eat only organic, non-GMO grasses from pasture and Hay harvested from our farm and they do not receive preventative antibiotics or added hormones to make them grow faster. All Windy Oaks beef cows roam outdoors on their pasture 24/7, where they have plenty of room to walk around, lie down, socialize and in general, do the things cows are meant to do. To protect the land, we use a managed rotational grazing system, where the pasture is divided into smaller paddocks and the cows graze only that area for one week, then we move them to a new paddock. Think of it like a child at a buffet: if they have unlimited access to their favorite foods, they would never eat their vegetables. In the same way, if cows have access to the entire field, they would pick and choose their favorite pasture plants, leaving others that may be very good for them, but may not be as tasty. Managed rotational grazing ensures the cows eat their "vegetables" as well as "dessert." It also improves the land itself by ensuring all plants are grazed to a similar level so that no single plant will take over the field, and the cows hooves loosen and aerate the ground. The land is then given 3 weeks or more of rest and regrowth. Thank you for supporting our family farm!
