Purchased in 1956 by the Scott Family, Eagle Ridge Ranch is a 23,000+ acre cattle ranch just west of Casper, WY. The ranch, which also includes over 200 acres of irrigated fields, is home to a herd of 400 cows. Most of the land is apart of the beautiful landscape that is Casper Mountain and Coal Mountain. The ranch has a conservation easement with the Nature Conservancy on 8,400 acres and the whol
e ranch is labeled under the National Audubon Society’s Jackson Canyon Important Bird Area (IBA)
The ranch is now being run by Stacey Scott. As avid birders and outdoorsmen the family has a deep care to be stewards of the land. Stacey strives to continue to grow and improve the land for future generations. Along with his wife Janice, Stacey tries to improve the land through multiple strategies. On the pasture lands, the goal is to use holistic range management to allow the grasses to flourish. By grazing in such a manner that the grasses are eaten then given a period of rest the different grasses, forbs, browse, bacteria and wildlife will continue to progress. By sequestering carbon, this grazing strategy will improve the lands ability to retain and absorb water, allowing for a more sustainable environment. On the irrigated fields the goals are to add crop diversity and humus levels. No till drilling of seed, cover cropping, and application of bio-stimulants improve humus levels. This in turn creates fields that are better able to handle the stresses of the arid west. The mission of Eagle Ridge is to continue to build a sustainable ranch through better land management for future generations. By continuing to learn about newer holistic approaches the ranch will continue to grow, continue to add humus, and continue to be a haven for all plants and wildlife.
