I’ve learned so much about animals in this past year. Just sitting, watching & observing.
This is Eleanor, she is one of the silkies that was determined to go broody and hatch out some babies. Instead, when we had a bunch of bantam chicks, she decided she was their adoptive mom and has taken all 40+ of them in!
When a hen with chicks or a rooster finds a treat or some good snacks, they have a specific call to let their chicks (or the hens in the roosters case) know.
The mama hen will then pick up the treat, and drop it so the babies can find it and let them eat.
The roosters will guide his ladies to the treat and stand by while they eat first then he will help himself to whatever is left.
