Good Morning Everyone, I wanted to take the time and update you all on our status here. Everyone knows last year February 6th a tornado took our home and our farm. We lost our barn and several goats. We only rented then so insurance for us was limited and the rebuild was all coming out of our pocket. There was a GOFUND me started and it helped greatly but we had to move animals and that was a nightmare. We found 50 acres and realized that was a sign to move all our animals to one location cause we had several in rented pastures but this was our chance to rebuild and bring everything together. So we started that process in June of 2020. We would worry about our housing after the animals were settled. We have struggled to grass to grow in a very sandy soil. It has been a nightmare in itself. We have made several farm friends in our new area and have built trade relationships with several and thought we were on a good path until we lost 20+ goats due to mineral defiency in our soil. We had the soil retested and had to revamp our mineral plan because now we were fighting it in all our pastures. We were able to save everyone that was left. We started planning a home for us this year and in September this year we decided enough was enough on the hotel living and we had enough money and all animals were pastured in lets just buy a mobile home so we could all be on the land together. Us and the animals. Like we always planned. Well a major loss was coming and we were shocked to our core. We had been receiving fresh produce from a group the next town over, our animals were looking great cause it awesome produce. We got a load 3 weeks ago on Sunday like we usually do and Monday at 2am when we stopped in as we were leaving for work we noticed alot of our animals were laying down dead. We lost our Nubians, Mini Nubians, Boers, Kikos, and our Nigerians. We left Sunday night with 76 goats on our farm and Monday after final count of all lost we have 11. Our daughter who owns the Bar Ringers Kritter Ranch lost a mini horse, cow, pig sheep and several chickens. We found out what was the problem, one of the items that was feed was not supposed to be livestock waste afterall. We are heart broken and devasted cause these were family to us. We bottle fed several of these goats and spent so much time with them. it was like losing family. We thought of closing up and fought with that idea for awhile. Then it hit me, I love this and what I do. I love where we were 2 years ago and I truly feel we are meant to build this goat farm and rescue on this land we purchased for our goats. Yes they are gone and will be missed but they are all buried here. Our plans our to rebuild bigger and better next year. We are taking the rest of this year off to get the ground ready again. We are pairing with several farms across the country to bring back the bloodlines we really want again and we are set to come out next year ready for 2022. any day now on Nubian baby watch. I asked the girls to try and decide now if they were going at night or in the morning and do they need assistance so we could make emergency kidding plans. I was told to just wait and listen for a bleet and mind my business.

So you want a baby goat
Things to think about:
1. Are they allowed where I live?
2. Do I have the time and space for them?
3. Two goats is a minimum.
4. Do I have a vet near that is knowledgeable about goats?
5. Why do I want them? Pets? Lawnmowers, breeding? What’s my end goal?
6. Will the person I am getting my baby goats from agree to be my mentor while I learn?
7. Investigate where you are getting your babies from? Do your homework. Don’t be an impulse buyer and possibly have heartbreak later if they are not healthy.
Things to know:
1. They are livestock not house pets. They have ruminant stomachs which requires nutrition you can’t really supply in the house.
2. One alone won’t work. They are herd animals. Risky to assume they will bond with your dog, cat, pig, etc.
3. They can live as long as dogs if properly taken care of. Am I willing to commit to this?
4. They will provide hours and hours of love and entertainment if you think about all of the above.

ok here is the reason I am sharing this photo and this story. In a homesteading for women group I am in we are going to all dress in ballgowns and feed our animals Wednesday 31st in Honor of The Late Duchess of Devonshire. Of course in true fashion I am going to issue a challenge to you all if you are willing to play the game also join us in the fun. I am going to seriously challenge the owner of Bar Ringers Kritter Ranch miss Marah Jacobs to feed in a ballgown. If she does not do it she owes me dinner Thursday April 1st at my favorite place to get steak.
