🍅 Few common reasons why healthy-looking tomato plants might not be blooming well: 🍅

🌱 Too much nitrogen – If your plants are lush and green but not producing flowers, they may be getting too much nitrogen. Nitrogen promotes leafy growth at the expense of blooms. Try switching to a fertilizer that’s lower in nitrogen and higher in phosphorus and potassium (often labeled as “bloom booster”).

☀️ Not enough sunlight – Tomatoes need at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day to flower and fruit well. If they’re shaded, consider relocating them or pruning surrounding plants.

🌡️ Too hot (or too cold) – Tomatoes can struggle to bloom if it’s consistently above 85°F during the day or below 55°F at night. High heat especially can cause flowers to drop before fruit sets.

💧 Watering stress – Inconsistent watering (too much or too little) can stress plants and reduce flower production. Try to keep soil evenly moist but not soggy.

🌬️ Lack of pollination or airflow – Sometimes flowers form but don’t get pollinated. Make sure there’s good air movement around the plants, and you can gently shake or tap the flowers to mimic natural pollination.

A huge thank you to Missouri Ruralist for the opportunity to share my passion for bridging the gap between food and healthcare.

As both a farmer and a nurse, I see firsthand how access to fresh, nutritious food impacts health outcomes. Strong local food systems don't just support farmers—they support healthier families, stronger communities, and a more resilient healthcare system. At Harvick Farms, we're working to connect those dots every day through food production, education, and community partnerships.

I am grateful for the chance to discuss how local agriculture can play a vital role in preventive health, food security, and rural community wellness.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support local farmers, local food, and innovative solutions that improve the health of our communities.

🌿 June Days at Harvick Farms 🌿

Some days are packed with big accomplishments, and some days are about appreciating the simple moments that make this life so rewarding.

Today was filled with harvesting lavender, hanging herbs to dry for future teas and seasonings, and taking a little time to enjoy the beauty of the lake. 💜

Every bundle of herbs drying in the barn is a reminder that summer's abundance won't last forever, which is why we work now to preserve the harvest for the months ahead. From the scent of fresh-cut lavender to the peaceful water views, it's the kind of day that reminds us why we chose this journey.

Growing food. Preserving harvests. Building a local food system. And taking time to enjoy the moments in between.

What's your favorite thing about June? 🌞

What a gorgeous day in the Ozarks!

I'm constantly in awe of this place.

Today, we dove into more prepping for our new high tunnels—so excited! Our current tunnel is thriving—mammoth jalapeños, bell peppers, basil, calendula, and even turmeric is popping up!

Over the next week, we’ll get these other high tunnels up and running, and we can't wait to grow even more food for our community.
