Buried Barrel Hard Cider

Buried Barrel Hard Cider Buried Barrel Hard Cider comes from apples on the Pankow Farm in Castile, NY. Family & Pet-Friendly. Farms from those times were diverse and self-sufficient.

The Story of Buried Barrel Hard Cider

A few short generations ago, most of the American population lived on the farm. People worked hard every day and every season from sunup to sundown. Food was raised on the farm from the livestock, vegetable gardens and fruit trees. With all of that hard work, there was also special times for celebrations with family, friends and neighbors. Special meals requi

red drawing on reserved stored foods and drinks. Most farms had abundant apple trees. Apples from harvest were preserved and made into apple sauce and canned for later use. Some apples also made their way into cider and this is the inspiration for the Buried Barrel Brand. Hard work required a hard drink for special celebrations. Hard Cider was the homemade drink. In late fall, apples were crushed and placed into a barrel with yeast and added sugar and flavorings. These barrels were sealed and buried in the ground to ferment and age. The science was not exact. Farmers learned by doing and experience. They didn’t go to the internet for clues or the state authorities for permits. They put themselves and faith into the process and got out what they put in. Buried Barrel Hard Cider comes exclusively from apples on the Pankow Farm in Castile, NY. For many generations this dairy farm has run a U-Pick orchard along Glen Iris Rd at the entrance to Letchworth State Park. They have buried and unburied many barrels of hard cider for family celebrations. Today’s cider is a toast to their heritage and a way to keep this special land and orchard in production for future generations. Cheers!

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who joined us last Thursday for the historic Big Boy No. 4014 viewing party. We were honored to share this once-in-a-lifetime experience with so many friends, neighbors, families, and visitors.

We’d also like to thank Two Farm Boys Concessions for keeping everyone fed and helping make the day even more enjoyable.

As Big Boy 4014 thundered past, there was a feeling of pride that is hard to put into words. Watching people line the tracks, wave their flags, smile, cheer, and simply enjoy the moment together was truly special.

One thing we can all agree on is that while America can sometimes feel messy and divided, events like this remind us how important community is. For a few moments, we all came together to celebrate something remarkable, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Thanks to your generosity, we also raised $200 through parking donations. We are proud to present those funds to Amanda Crowley, who hosted a fundraiser on Sunday, June 14, benefiting the Wilmot Cancer Institute and its important cancer research and survivorship programs right here in our region. 🎗️

Thank you again for supporting not only Buried Barrel Hard Cider, but also local businesses, local causes, and the spirit of community that makes places like ours so special. 🫶🏽
