Anybody planning to grill this weekend? I just picked some beautiful large shiitake that are perfect for grilling! Marinate them and cook them for an appetizer, use them in place of a burger or slice them as a side dish. Message or text me!

Foxes have been a common occurance in the back fields every spring and summer for years and I love watching them hunt....hence the name farm named - Fox Run. But this year is a first. A few days ago my dog Lucy was interested in my Dad's old garage. I opened the door expecting her to chase out a squirrel or a woodchuck but no, what comes running past the door is a kit fox. I grabbed Lucy and then heard momma barking from what I assumed was across the road. I left open the door and took Lucy out the driveway to our house and thought that was the end. However, coming home from breakfast on Mother's Day as we pulled into the driveway I saw motion at the corner of the old house that I grew up in by the road. Lo and behold a litter of kit foxes have moved in under the front porch. There are at least 4 running about but one of them is very bold and just sat there and watched us, even when I rolled down the window, talked to him and took pictures! I will post updates if I see them again. Foxes will move their families from den to den and it is possible that there is too much action there for them to stay long. But it was the best Mother's Day suprise ever!

This is Chubby. He is a tiny, fat ruby throated hummingbird who has been visiting the feeder on my porch for over 5 years now. I put my feeder out on May 1. Chubby is always one of the first to arrive and will relentlessly guard the feeder against other males. He is chivalrous though as he lets the females feed. I will watch him and his antics from now until late summer when they migrate south. He makes me smile from my kitchen window everyday.
