Colorado Agricultural Leadership Foundation, CALF

Colorado Agricultural Leadership Foundation, CALF CALF offers programs ranging from school field trips, summer educational camps, tours, and fun, family weekend events.

We also offer space for 4-H and FFA members to keep their projects. Follow our page to stay up to date on ranch news! John and Bea Lowell, life-long ranchers and community supporters, spent their entire married life in Douglas County, Colorado helping kids, involved in community activities and agriculture. In 2002, John and Bea created CALF as a way to preserve a piece of rural life within the sub

urbs and promote agricultural education. Years later, CALF carries on their vision and operates their Lowell Ranch on Plum Creek serves as an ideal venue for a working agricultural education center. Our ranch was originally homesteaded in 1878. Henry and Maude Lowell moved to the ranch in 1906. The Lowell Family has occupied it ever since. In 2010, The Douglas County Board of Commissioners designated the Lowell OV Ranch as a historic landmark.

Sometimes ranch work stops you in your tracks โ€” not for a fence that needs fixing, but to appreciate the amazing animals around you. Or in this case, the reptiles. ๐Ÿ

Our ranch manager came across this beautiful bull snake out in the pasture, and we just had to share! Bull snakes are incredible animals and honestly some of the best neighbors a ranch can have. They keep rodent populations in check, are non-venomous, and play an important role in keeping our local ecosystem balanced.

We safely relocated him back to the pasture where he belongs โ€” back to doing what he does best. ๐Ÿ‘

Aiden and his crew put in all the posts for our new pens, and the craftsmanship and effort they brought to the job was truly impressive. Projects like these aren't just about the finished product โ€” they're about the skills these young people are building along the way. From planning and leadership to problem-solving and hard physical work, the Eagle Scout program shapes incredible individuals, and it shows.

Thank you, Kade, and everyone who helped make this happen. We are so proud to have been part of your journey. ๐Ÿ’š

On May 9th, we officially cut the ribbon on the Larry Carnahan Barn and we are still smiling about it! ๐ŸŽ€ What a celebration โ€” surrounded by our community, our donors, our CALF Kids, and the people who made this dream a reality. This barn represents so much more than a building. It means more space for our animals, more room for our CALF Kids to grow, and a lasting legacy for the next generation of agriculture.
To everyone who gave their time, resources, and hearts to make this possible โ€” THANK YOU.
