June 19, 1865.

Nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas, were told they were free.

One year later, freed slaves in Texas celebrated the first Juneteenth on June 19, and called it "Jubilee Day." On that day, a holiday and tradition was born to celebrate Black resilience and pride.

It was a milestone in the long struggle for freedom and justice.

Today we honor the freedom, the joy, the continuing fight for equality, and the community Juneteenth represents. We hope you do too.

Food as Medicine, Made Delicious.

We're thrilled to welcome Oakland author Joaninha to our Wellness department for an afternoon of conversation around her latest cookbook, Recipes for a Good Life (Regent Press, 2024).

Joaninha brings decades of experience as a dietary consultant, food writer, and educator rooted in holistic and Ayurvedic traditions.

Her book is a practical, accessible guide to eating in a way that genuinely supports your health with recipes that are as nourishing as they are flavorful. Mostly vegetarian, mostly gluten-free, but all approachable.

You'll learn that healthy eating isn't about restriction. It's about expanding your relationship with food and understanding it as medicine.

Come meet Joaninha, ask her anything, and pick up a copy of her book.

Happy Earth Day!!

Among other things, today is a reminder that better things are possible, and that Mother Earth is worth fighting for.

We have a long way to go, but we're committed to doing our part to get us closer to a greener and cleaner future.

Thank you all for your efforts, too!

Simple, sincere, and seriously good.

That could easily describe two of our product samplers this Friday night. Join us as we welcome East Brother Beer Co. & Clean & Simple Foods to the store for the First Friday's Markets.

While two different products, you'll find a lot in common.

East Brother Beer Co. brews classics with obsessive precision β€” no trend-chasing, no shortcuts, just clean craft in a can.

While Clean & Simple Foods keeps it the same way: pure ingredients, no hidden junk, no added sugar.

Come taste both.

Oh, and there's a craft bar, indie market, live DJ set, and more specials throughout the building.

Come start your holiday weekend off right.

Good food should do good things.

This Friday, shop at either or and 3% of sales will support the , a Bay Area organization doing the quiet, unglamorous, and essential work of caring for our unhoused neighbors.

Every week, they're out there hauling trash from the streets, parks, and waterways (3,000+ tons and counting), distributing blankets, meals, clothing, and hygiene products to hundreds of people, and connecting individuals to housing and services through hands-on case management. To date, they've linked more than 10,000 people to critical resources!

Their model is simple but powerful: show up consistently, listen first, and build real trust between housed and unhoused neighbors across the Greater Bay Area.

This Friday, your grocery run is part of that.

Stock your kitchen, support your community.
