What a beautiful afternoon to move heifers around. During the winter we keep everything right here on the farm to keep a close eye on through the cold and elements but we’re excited to turn some heifers out to fresh luscious green grass for the summer. Before their summer vacay, each one gets a quick trip through the working chute for fly tags and dewormer.

Sweet Dolly who is normally an aggressive eater, didn’t finish her milk last night or this morning. Fortunately, Dolly is still eating grain, running around her hutch, and her manure does not look abnormal so she’s not acting like she doesn’t feel good but it’s supposed to be upper 80s again today so we’re giving Dolly a little boost of electrolytes to keep her hydrated through the heat.

You know that super soft and fresh feeling you get after a pedicure? Our ladies feel the same way after our hoof trimmer visits. 3 times per year we trim the hooves of our whole herd and they show us how much they appreciate it usually a few days later with a boost in milk. When cows feel good, they show it in their milk production. What’s the big contraption they’re in? An electronic chute that lifts the cow up, rests her comfortably on her side, and locks her feet in place so our trimmer can safely trim her hooves. For most cows they’re in and out within 5 minutes but they feel the benefits for months!

Thanks to everyone who voted on a name for this sweet girl. Since she was born in March, we’re gonna call her Peppermint ☘️. Bell was a close second.

This sassy little lady is 5 days old and full of s***k which is exactly what we like to see. Her favorite activity is feeding time where she chugs down her gallon of milk as fast as she can!

That new calf wobble 🥰 this sweet little lady was born this morning and is already wobbling her way up and around. Her mamas name is Pepper and she has a sister named Pepperoni- what should we name her?

Most parents tell their kids not to slam on the table when they want more food but around here we love seeing our calves throw their buckets in the air 👏👏

Now don’t let this little lady fool you, she just had over a gallon of milk but when they throw the buckets like that it’s a sign of healthy calves with healthy appetite. In addition to the 2+ gallons of milk they get each day, each calf has access to fresh feed & water so they never go hungry but milk is their favorite 🥛
