Oh how I will remember these days. The post-daycare begging for a tractor ride, "Tractor! Disc on! Bucket off! Forks on!", when we are exhausted to the bone from a full day of work, but cannot say No to Cooper's pleas to be outside on the farm. It's not easy, but we sure do love this little life.

The first winter squash harvest is this cute Orangeti spaghetti squash and it always reminds me that autumn is upon us!! My favorite time of year!! Our squash is looking great this season since we expanded our deer fenced area and planted it inside 🤪 These Orangeti cuties will be at Rhinebeck Farmers Market this weekend, and available for online orders next week 🧡

The Lo Farm crew this year! David and Sarah are our part-timers who help make this farm happen. From deliveries to harvest to weeding to washing and packing, we couldn’t do it without them! And of course we got our supervisor Cooper who makes sure we stay in line 👀 luckily he doesn’t mind if we have a few brewskies at the end of the day on Friday 🍻

My mom came and stayed for two weeks. This is our busiest time of year - she knew that coming into this visit and arrived with her game face on, ready to go. She did daycare drive both ways everyday (it’s a 1 hour round trip), cooked, cleaned, did laundry, took care of our toddler AND weeded our entire onion field during a heat wave. “Grateful” is an understatement. Thank you so much, mom, we love you endlessly!!

Who We Are

The Lo Farm is a small organic vegetable farm located in New Paltz, New York, and is owned and operated by Leah Munsey and Orlando Diaz. Beginning in the Spring of 2020, we will grow a diverse variety of nutrient-dense produce using organic farming methods for a Farm Card style CSA, farmers markets, and local restaurants.

Orlando, who grew up in New York, and Leah, who grew up in Arkansas, met in Montana in 2012 when we were both volunteering for Americorps doing trail work in the Northern Rockies. Our combined experience and interests in gardening and food politics led us to start interning on a small organic farm in Montana, and right away we were hooked.

We moved to New York in 2013 and continued to keep our hands in the dirt. Our path eventually led us to management positions on an 80-acre organic vegetable CSA farm on Long Island for several years. The more we farmed, the more we continued to fall in love with the process of planting seeds, watching and nurturing them to grow, and feeding our family, friends, and community.

During those years, it was always our dream to move to the Hudson Valley, be closer to family, and start our own farm. We made the move in 2019, and spent the 2019 season working on an organic vegetable farm outside of Hudson, as we continued to search for the perfect spot to set root and establish our own farm. The timing could not have been more perfect for our path to cross with that of the Taliaferro family in New Paltz, NY.
