What's up with the tattoos? Good question! It's not just a fashion trend. We use a freeze brand on our momma cows that we plan to keep around for a while. Many of them will give us a healthy calf yearly for 10 years. As you can imagine, those ear tags get lost, get dirty, what have you, so this gives us a way to identify them for years to come. The letter corresponds to their birth year. Any guesses on the eldest cow we have on the farm? 🤔

There are a lot of misconceptions about raising beef cattle. Here’s one thing we believe: calm cattle are well-handled cattle. 🐂

No need for whooping, hollering, or unnecessary stress. Calm cattle are safer for everyone, including the animals themselves. Good stockmanship isn’t about ego; it’s about efficiency, safety, and ethics.

It’s an honor to care for these animals from birth to finish, building trust and familiarity along the way. We learn their ways, and they learn ours. That relationship matters. ❤️

Good farming and good animal care go hand in hand.

We are so excited to have planted not one but TWO wildflower pollinator habitats this year in partnership with the NCRS office. 🐝 People are always coming to us with plans and ideas for their own property, and I love being able to send them over to the NCRS office in Glasgow to help them on their journey. If you haven't gotten involved with them or your local extension office, this is your sign. Thank you also to Roundstone Native Seed! I cannot wait to see what this looks like in the years to come!
