Travel + Leisure readers just voted this the best resort in Europe, and I could not agree more.

Castiglion del Bosco, a Rosewood hotel on a 5,000-acre estate in Montalcino, took the top resort spot in Europe in this year's World's Best Awards with a near-perfect score. Add two Michelin stars at Ristorante Campo del Drago, three Michelin Keys, and an estate w**ery producing its own Brunello di Montalcino, and the case pretty much makes itself.

Golfers, save this part. The estate is home to the only private golf club in Italy, a Tom Weiskopf-designed 18-hole course that hotel guests can actually play. Expect Val d'Orcia views on every hole and almost no one else on the course.

The trips I'd start planning now? Almost all of them are at least a year away. Here's what's on the drawing board.

Japan for cherry blossom season. A villa summer in Europe. Patagonia at peak trekking season. Marbella or Tangier for front-row seats to the next total solar eclipse. Tuscany for the milestone birthday, and Bora Bora for the anniversary.

The common thread is lead time. These are the trips I lock in 12 to 18 months ahead, because the best guides, rooms, and dates genuinely run out. Eclipse week most of all.

The hotel currently ranked #9 in the world isn't on a beach. It's deep in the Yucatán jungle.

Chablé Yucatán, a restored 19th-century hacienda outside Mérida, holds the #9 spot on the World's 50 Best Hotels list and was just named the Best Hotel in North America for the third year in a row.

The claim to fame is the spa, built around a natural cenote, one of the underground pools the Maya considered sacred. It was the first spa in the world designed that way.

Every casita comes with its own private pool and jungle views. Dinner is its own event too, with menus shaped by Jorge Vallejo of Mexico City's famed Quintonil and a tequila library so deep it earned a Guinness World Record.

Egypt has been on bucket lists for about 4,000 years, and it has never been a better trip than right now.

Marrakesh gets all the attention, and it earns it. But the Morocco my clients rave about most starts once you leave the city.

Fes holds the world's largest car-free urban area, a medieval medina where coppersmiths, weavers, and tanneries still work the way they have for centuries. It's the country's cultural heart, and most visitors never make it there.

The High Atlas delivers Berber villages, mule trails, and mountain lodges with valley views, less than two hours from Marrakesh but a world apart.

Skoura's palm oasis and the kasbah route lead toward Sahara camps where dinner happens by firelight and the stars do the entertaining.

Fun fact about planning Peru: the smartest thing you can do at 11,000 feet is pick a hotel that breathes for you.

Here's the order I recommend to clients. Land in Cusco, head straight down to the lower Sacred Valley, and save Cusco for the end of the trip once you've acclimatized. Then check into Palacio Nazarenas, where every suite is enriched with extra oxygen, and those final nights feel easy instead of breathless.

The hotel itself is a 16th-century palace-turned-convent on a peaceful plaza just above Cusco's main square. All suites, original Inca stonework running through the walls, and a heated outdoor pool that was the first of its kind in the city. Not bad for a building older than most countries.

AI is useful early on: gathering ideas, comparing regions, figuring out what kind of trip you're actually in the mood for, drafting the packing list. Bring me all of it. A client who arrives with a screenshot of ideas gives me a head start I love.

My shortlist of the world's most iconic wildlife experiences. All bookable, all better in person.

The Great Migration in Tanzania and Kenya, timed to the Mara River crossings. Mountain gorillas in Rwanda, an hour face-to-face that clients call life-changing. Bengal tigers in India's national parks. Elephants crossing the water in Botswana's Okavango Delta. Polar bears on the tundra in Churchill, Canada. Penguin colonies by the hundred thousand in Antarctica.

Every one of these is seasonal, and the best camps, permits, and guides go a year or more out. The earlier you raise your hand, the better your odds of the sighting you came for.

How does being one of the very first guests on the Riviera's newest private island sound?

Zannier Île de Bendor opened just this May, so hardly anyone has experienced it yet. The whole island is yours to roam, seven minutes by boat from Bandol, reimagined as a completely car-free village with 93 rooms spread across three houses, each with its own personality.

Fill the days however you like. Swim off the beach cove, take a lesson at the on-site diving center, wander between eight restaurants and bars, or disappear into one of the largest spas in the region for an afternoon.
