Update on the brown doeling from yesterday. She now has a new momma. I had this doe and the brown doeling's mother in building while their kids were warming up and getting a little milk. Today the one doe seems to have adopted the brown doeling plus caring for her own. The brown doeling's mother shows no interest in it. Things like this happen quite often. I've even had two does trade their kids. A pair of twins for a single.

Was feeding the goats some hay this afternoon. I could hear Sukey barking. Denise had let her out for a little while and she was on watch. She is where the dogs will sit on watch if they are not in the pasture. It is also where Boochie, Magoo, and Penny, our three Bernse Mountain Dogs are buried. I think she was telling me enough pictures get to work.

This is Sukey one of our livestock guardian dogs. Over the summer she developed a weakness in her back legs. She had trouble going from a sit to stand and going down a few steps. A trip to Cornell for an CAT scan they recommended shock wave therapy and rest for a month. At her one month check up they recommended physical therapy for a month before we return her to the pasture. Today was her first therapy appointment at Village Vet. She spent almost 10 minutes on the water treadmill. By the end she should be at 20 minutes and the treadmill moving faster.

This pasture I broadcast planted to wheat and ceral rye. It was really looking good before it got covered in snow. I had been keeping the goats out of it saving it for spring. Overnight the deer found it. I guess I'm going to have to open the gate so the dogs can get in there. Right now we are down to one dog at night so she stay pretty close to the herd. Rufus is retired and starting to show his age, but with the cold he does spend more time outside. Sukey has been on bed rest because a hip issue for a month and probably another month before she can spend nights in the pasture. That leaves nights up to Flossie.

Today October 25th. Goats have been in the Turnips for 3 days. Trying to get them to eat the greens to give the rye and wheat sunlight to grow. They go to the top of the hill where I thought there was very few Turnips. Walked up there yesterday and there are more there than I thought. They've got them out of the ground and are eating them. Going to put a temporary fence up to keep them on lower side tomorrow.

September 17th hill pasture after grazing off the buckwheat the purple top turnips took off. Not exactly what I expected but it made good feed. Goats ate the foliage and some the turnips. The turnips came back again and I started grazing them again today Oct 22nd. After a frost the turnips are supposed to turn sweet making them more desirable to the goats.

August 21 hill pasture video shows where goats have grazed a couple paddocks down and have been moved up the hill to a new section.
