We believe the best horse farms aren't necessarily the biggest or the fanciest—they're the ones designed with purpose.
When we built our farm, we weren't trying to create a sprawling showplace or a simple backyard barn.
We wanted the perfect balance: close enough to the house to make chores efficient, yet far enough away to give both the home and the horses their own peaceful space.
While both of us worked full-time careers, we designed, built, and managed this farm ourselves. Every improvement had one goal: making daily horse care safer, healthier, and easier—without sacrificing quality.
Some of the thoughtful features include:
🐴 West-side stalls that open directly to the pastures, allowing horses to come and go freely, or be securely closed during inclement weather.
💧 Water and lighting in the run-in shed, along with Mirafi fabric and tile drainage to reduce mud and keep horses comfortable year-round.
⚡ GFCI outlets in every stall for heated water buckets and a dedicated electrical subpanel to provide safe, reliable power throughout the barn.
🔒 Extra gates throughout the property to make moving horses safer and to give parents peace of mind when children are helping around the farm.
🌿 Six well-planned pastures that can easily be combined, making mowing and pasture maintenance simple and efficient.
🐴 Safe Equi-Braid fencing that's highly visible, horse-friendly, and easy to repair or replace if needed.
🚜 One tractor with a front-end loader has handled virtually every job on the farm—from moving hay and manure to grading, snow removal, and general maintenance.
The result is a farm that's practical for two people with full-time jobs to manage. And if life gets busy, it's designed so a trusted local handyman can easily handle the occasional maintenance task.
Because low maintenance doesn't mean cutting corners—it means spending less time fixing problems and more time doing what matters most: enjoying your horses, making memories with family and friends, and appreciating the lifestyle you've worked so hard to create.
Wind Swept Hill Farm is simply a thoughtfully designed horse farm that works beautifully—for the horses (and chickens, cats, dogs and ?), for the people, and for everyday life.
