Farmers and ranchers are having an especially tough time - it's estimated we're losing 60 family farms a day. Tariffs, inflated and increasing input costs, ICE raids on farms and related businesses, and an out of touch Dept. of Agriculture are some of the reasons making it more and more difficult to farm. Those of us who farm regeneratively haven't been hit perhaps as hard because when you farm regeneratively you don't use and therefore don't purchase things like chemical fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, nearly as much gas and diesel or feed, etc. And if you're selling locally, the effect of tariffs is minimal. Our major concern has been the increasing costs of the beef cows we purchase to grow and finish for our local customers and that we have to pass some of that cost on to those customers. All to say, we occasionally are blessed with some unexpected good news. Over the past year some of the beef heifers we purchased for our share program were supposed to be open - surprise! A few days ago we welcomed calf # 4.
