Botanist and Barrel

Botanist and Barrel We're family bound by love for good food, here to shake up the South. Frustrated by wines that didn’t reflect our South, we made our own. Farm. Fruit. Ferment.
(294)

We dreamed of a winery as inclusive and vibrant as a potluck, celebrating local fruits and shared moments. Dry Fruit Wines, Farmhouse Ciders & Spirituous Barrels. Botanist and Barrel and the B&B tasting room are beautifully situated on Cedar Grove Blueberry Farm just north of Hillsborough, NC. We craft a variety of barrel aged and stainless steel dry wines, ciders and sours, using only the finest

southeastern grown fruits, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, peaches and apples. We believe in light-handed winemaking using centuries old European techniques, allowing the fruits, yeast and barrels we have carefully selected to be vivid and expressive. Visitors can spend the day picking blueberries (season runs July-August), purchase and taste our wines, local craft beers and prepared foods, all in a scenic farm setting.

Double Traminette release day is here, and we are fully, wildly, no notes obsessed.

Here’s why.

I usually don’t love floral wines.

I want to. I understand them. I respect the drama. But sometimes they feel a little too pretty. Too perfumed. Like someone sprayed flowers over the glass and asked me to call it complexity.

Then I had Traminette as a skin contact wine, and something clicked.

The floral side was still there, but suddenly it had teeth. It had crunch. It had grip. It had that citrus peel thing that makes your mouth wake up and pay attention.

Orange blossom. Lychee. Spice. Texture. Lift.

Suddenly the flowers had dirt under their nails, and I was in.

So this release feels special because we’re showing two sides of the same grape.

🥂 DeFi Traminette Pet Nat 2025
Aromatic sparkle. Native yeast. 12.5% abv

Beautifully aromatic and textured. Traminette is a cross of Joannes Seyve and Gewürztraminer, and it thrives here, which is why you will keep seeing it from us.

Think stone fruit, white flowers, apricot, honeysuckle, and lemon curd, with a perfumed nose and a clean, lively finish.

Hand harvested, fermented with native yeast, and disgorged by hand.

🍊 DeFi Traminette Skin Contact 2025
Skin fermented. Native yeast. 12.2% abv

Hand harvested Traminette, 5 days on skins. Native yeast, no filtering, no fining. Just raw, expressive wine built on texture and lift.

It brings citrusy grip and aromatic punch, with orange blossom, lychee, and a whisper of spice.

Think Gewürztraminer meets dry Muscat, with a Southern backbone.

Same grape. Two moods. One bright and sparkling. One textured and grippy.

Both available now at the winery in Cedar Grove and at the bar in Asheville.

Slide into the weekend like this.

Last week we threw a little gathering for our club members and it was exactly what we needed.

So much love to our members for showing up and making this whole thing feel real. Big gratitude to our growers too. None of these bottles exist without yall.

And huge shout out to for the food. Absolute magic.

If you have been thinking about joining the club, nights like this are the point.

You ready for a chillable red with a little grit and a whole lot of cranberry swagger?

🍷 Chambourcin Red 2024

This one is fermented with native yeast, rested in neutral oak, and grown in the warm clay soils of Southern Virginia.

Perfect. Big cranberry vibes. Amie calls it crunchy, and she is absolutely right.

It’s juicy and brambly with crushed blackberry, ripe cherry, wild herbs, a little spice, and the kind of bright acidity that makes food do a little happy dance next to it.

Serve it with a slight chill. Not ice cold. Just enough to wake it up.

Find it at the winery in Cedar Grove and at the bar in Asheville.
