🌸🧡Peonies come and go in a flash, and the last couple days have been wonderful. So many kind people stopped by while I was still making bunches — waiting as I bundled right at my work table, adding stems of iris and salvia, and carrying flowers home almost faster than I could wrap them. There are 2 peony bunches and a few cute Coral Charm bud vases on the flower stand this Saturday morning… and then I’ll be sold out of peonies much earlier than I expected!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by already — Amy and her adorable puppy Jellybean, Joe and his sweet compliments about my flowers, Peggy who brought me delicious Nutella baked goods (how nice is that?), Noel, who I married here at the farm in a fairytale ceremony a couple summers ago, and Jess with her darling daughter, who is going to help me test an especially giant peony bloom to make sure it opened beautifully. One sweet customer even gathered three pink peony bundles with purple iris and salvia right in the driveway to give her daughter after graduation, and the bouquet she created in her arms was absolutely beautiful.

I truly love meeting all of you. Thank you for visiting my Little Flower Stand, and I hope these peonies bring smiles to your homes all week🧡🌸👩‍🌾

I rebuilt my flower stand🌼💛

Then I made it too tall to leave the garage🤦‍♀️

So now I’m moving it to the road one scoot at a time… in pajamas… holding coffee… questioning my engineering choices.

If you want to know whether I actually make it out of the driveway (and how much coffee it takes), follow along in my stories.

The peonies ride at dawn—Or whenever I can physically push this more than 3 inches.

The flower stand will be in the driveway somewhere and stocked with peony bunches Thursday morning. 🌸

Goddess of the garden… no, not me—the Iris 💙

Harvesting these blue beauties today and storing them dry, wrapped in paper, in the cooler, until I’m ready to use them in bouquets this weekend.

Fun flower fact: you can actually store iris this way for arrangements, and peonies too. I currently have 200 peonies tucked away in my cooler waiting for the flower stand this weekend 🌸👀

My Little Flower Stand will be stocked with peonies, blue iris, delphinium, mountain mint, and all the prettiest blooms I can find around the farm right now.

Spring flowers in Iowa are fleeting… but so worth waiting for.

This article I found has great info about storing iris dry for arrangements:

Have you ever wanted to go back to a home you once lived in?

One day I got a phone call.

“Hi… I saw your Facebook. I used to live in that house. I raised my kids there on Spanish Road. I was wondering… would it be okay if I came to visit?”

That was Elaine.

She and her husband Brian moved here in 1979. They raised their family here, planted gardens, and filled this old farmhouse with life.

When she came back, she brought photo albums-
pictures of the same trees that still stand,
the same yard,
the same little barn.
Children playing where flowers grow now.

We sat together, flipping through memories that somehow still live here.

What I didn’t know when she first called was that she was walking through stage four cancer.

She told me later she almost didn’t reach out.
But something about this place pulled her back.

Since then, she’s become a dear friend.
She comes to the farm, brings her church ladies, picks flowers, sits in the quiet.

And somehow… this place that once held her life
now holds her again in a different way.

And it’s not just Elaine.

Over the years, people have found their way back here—
children from the 40s and 50s,
families from the 90s,
names still written in the concrete,
stories still tucked into the walls.

This little farm has held generations.

And now… it’s open for you too.

If you’ve been waiting for something slower, some beautiful innocent fun, a little magic you can step into…
come pick flowers this summer.

Like a sweet memory, there’s something here for you to love.

💛I was so happy to see this wonderful lady and her adorable daughter when they stopped by my Little Flower Stand for tulips yesterday!

You see, I married Pauline and her now husband John twice at my Little Flower Farm, one a lovely elopement and a few months later a full fairytale wedding—and now a sweet baby!

I can hardly express how much joy this is, very rewarding to have such good memories and friends.😊

💐Happy days Pauline, John and sweet little one, I can’t wait to see you again!🩷

Every farm has its seasons, and last year was one of the hardest. I stepped away for a while, unsure of what the future might hold. But flowers have a way of calling you back—they fill the soul and remind us that hope always blooms again. 🌷

So, I’m excited (and a little emotional!) to share that my Little Flower Stand will be reopening this week with fresh tulips. It feels like the beginning of a beautiful new chapter, and I’d love for you to stop by.

💙💜I’m hanging up the Gone Fishin’ sign—See you in July! My Little Flower Farm is closed for the month of June because it’s “gap season” in the garden with limited flowers blooming between cool spring daffodils, tulips, peonies and hot summer sunflowers, zinnias, marigolds so my farm is closed this June (except for flower pop-ups at my roadside stand and one lovely micro wedding). I’ll get some rest and family time, then gear up for You-Pick Flowers starting in July!
