Heather's Adventures Where life revolves around the rhythm of the garden, flock, and the simple joy of growing real food.

What started as a personal passion for homesteading has grown into a community farm stand where we share the absolute best of our harvest.

I was able to pick through what’s left of the garden today, and honestly, I can’t believe the tomatoes are still throwing new fruit! 🍅 The peppers are still flowering with tons picked today, and the green beans are thriving—officially mocking the rabbits that have munched on them all season long. 🐰🌾
Meanwhile, the deer have moved on from vegetation to fruit in the squash and pumpkin patch, and the snails are having an absolute party! 🐌🎃

The best part? The chickens and ducks are thoroughly enjoying all the deer-nibbled pumpkins and squash that aren't quite pretty enough for front-porch seasonal decor. 🐓🦆

To top off a great day, I am absolutely in love with the new olive eggs from our pullets that just started laying! 𝄠✨ Now I’m just eagerly counting down until our Black Copper Marans join in with those deep, dark chocolate eggs. Fresh garden hauls and a rainbow egg basket—it doesn't get much better than this. 🧺🌈

How is your garden holding on, and what’s filling your egg cartons this week? 👇

The ultimate pre-surgery nesting marathon is complete! 🌿✨

Farm stand? Cleaned. Coop? Fresh and ready. Front porch? Swept clean—though the living room now looks like a full-blown jungle with all the plants officially moved indoors for the season! 🐒🪴

While picking goldenrod and gathering the last of the garden produce today, I stumbled upon nature doing what it does best. Pollinators scavenging for those final sweet drops of summer nectar, along with frogs, caterpillars, grasshoppers, slugs, rabbits, and deer all happily munching away on what most people would call "unedible."

It might look like a patch of overgrown weeds or a garden giving in to a chilly Michigan autumn, but to these little guys, it’s vital nourishment for the long winter ahead. I’m so grateful and blessed to slow down, witness, and be a small part of their life cycle.

Everything is checked off the list, the house is ready, and my heart is full. Time to rest up! 💚🙌

I will continue to do my best with keeping veggies stocked as my body allows.

Eggs, dry/canned goods, and honey will consistently be available through the winter.

I appreciate all the continued support!! I sold out of eggs everyday this week! Thats 5-6 dozen a day. 😍

And, a huge thank you, to all the new comers from the farm stand trail this past weekend. We had a great turn out! Growing our circle and community by providing fresh, organic goods is what this is all about 💚

As always, have a great day!!

Part 4: The Final Process & The Pop! ⏱️

Into the hot water bath they go for processing!

Once the timer goes off, carefully lifting them out to rest on the counter is the best part.

Now we just sit back and wait for that sweet sound: the satisfying snap of lids sealing down tight.

Part 3: Filling the Jars 🫙

Ladle time! Carefully filling each warm jar with smooth, golden applesauce, leaving just the right amount of headspace. Wiping the rims squeaky clean, setting the lids, and tightening the rings finger-tip tight—these beauties are ready to seal in that fresh autumn flavor.

Part 2: Getting Ready for the Bath 🌡️
While the giant water bath canner comes up to a rolling boil, step two is all about temperature control. Keeping the glass jars hot and heating the lids ensures everything seals properly without cracking. Prep work makes the dream work!
