As Fall begins and the farm starts to quiet, a different kind of work begins behind the scenes. 🍂🌱
In October, the fields may look a little quieter, but there is still so much happening here at Miller Farms. Preparing for Winter and Spring isn’t always glamorous, but it is necessary and it’s some of the most meaningful work we do.
Piles of mulch are being spread with the tractor, giving the soil what it needs to rest and rebuild. 🌱
Cover crops are being planted to enrich the soil that needs a little love 💕 and, in return, gives us so much beauty when the flowers begin to bloom in Spring and Summer.
All the peony stems are being cut back, preparing the plants for fresh, beautiful growth next Spring. 🌸
Excess dirt is being cleared from the landscape fabric with a leaf blower. There’s still lots to do, but little by little, it all gets done.
And then there are the additional Peony roots an investment in the future.
These aren’t flowers we’ll enjoy next month or even next year. We’re thinking at least three years from now.
That takes Patience.
It takes Faith.
And it takes believing in the Future . ❤️
Hundreds of holes are also being cut into the landscape fabric, preparing the ground where new Peony roots will be planted and cared for in the years ahead.
It’s a lot of work that most people never see.
But this is what growing a farm looks like. 🌱
Planting today for the beauty of tomorrow. 🌸
We’re planting for the Future.
As farmers, we learn to be patient. We learn to trust the soil, the Seasons, the weather, and the process.
We plant something today knowing we may not see the reward for a long time.
That’s one of the beautiful things about farming.
It teaches you to Believe in something you cannot see yet. ❤️
