The foundation of a great cowherd takes years to build. The genetics you select today shape what your program looks like a decade from now. Twenty years from now, someone is going to wish they'd started making better decisions today. Don't be that person.

Do you know how hard it is to video one that is dog gentle? Overlook the fact that we were having to keep tapping her with the stick to keep her moving, she just wanted to give some more loving.

When they act like this it’s hard to get a good sale video of them, she’s big time good with an attitude suitable for a first timer!

The mentor who helped you sort your first set of replacement heifers. The neighbor who showed up with a loader when you needed it. The customer who told someone else about your cattle. One act of generosity in this business has a way of growing into something neither person could have predicted.

𝐋𝐨𝐭 πŸ• | πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ” π‹πšππ’πžπ¬ 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐑𝐞 π‘π¨π²πšπ₯Here is a mating that needs no introduction. We attended Jensen's "The Chosen" sale in 2...

Here is a mating that needs no introduction. We attended Jensen's "The Chosen" sale in 2024 and had the opportunity to purchase a package of the Marksman x Chardonnay 907E mating and were lucky enough to get 3 out of the 4 on the ground. There weren't enough for us to have our own sale, so we opted to offer the best of the trio as our consignment for the Ladies of Royal sale this year.

"Cricket" is a super sound, big bellied female that fits the bill. From her length of spine and hip, depth of rib, and all the right angles, she is a perfect example of why this mating continues to be so popular and has only gotten better since this picture was taken for the catalog deadline. Top it all off with her easy going attitude that will make her the perfect partner for a first year showman.

Stay tuned this week as we get updated pictures and take her official sale video.

Some of the best cattle operations in the country were built by families who went through hard times that should have ended them. Drought that wiped out the grass. Debt that looked impossible. Markets that bottomed out. They came through it with a program built on something unshakeable.

If your cowherd isn't doing what you need it to do β€” weaning weights, fertility, carcass merit β€” doing more of the same won't fix it. The answer is usually a different approach to selection, a different cross, a different way of thinking about what you actually need. Fresh eyes matter.

There are easier ways to make a living than raising cattle. The people who do this β€” really do this β€” aren't in it because it was the path of least resistance. They're in it because something about this life makes them come alive. That matters. And it shows in the cattle.
